Answer: Winterland

Peter Frampton recorded many of the tracks for the US Billboard Number One album at Winterland in San Francisco, two blocks from where the original Fillmore Auditorium was located. The Winterland recordings were done using a 24-track recorder. The album was originally scheduled to be a single record album until A and M Records decided to record songs at additional venues and release a double album.
"Show Me the Way", "Do You Feel Like We Do?" and "Baby, I Love Your Way" were successful single releases from the double album.
When Winterland was constructed in 1928 it was called the New Dreamland Auditorium. Within a decade it was changed to Winterland when ice skating was introduced. In the mid-sixties promoter Bill Graham occasionally rented the facility to accommodate bigger crowds than his Fillmore Auditorium could handle. The Paul Butterfield Blues Band and Jefferson Airplane were the first two rock acts that Graham booked at Winterland.
The venue closed in early 1979 after a concert that included the Blues Brothers, The Grateful Dead and New Riders of the Purple Sage. Apartments now occupy the spot.
In 1964 The Beatles kicked off their US tour at The Cow Palace in Daly City, California. In the seventies Kezar Stadium near Golden Gate Park became the site of many rock concerts following the departure of the Oakland Raiders.

Answer: Ike and Tina Turner

The legendary twelve minute rendition of "Proud Mary" was recorded by Ike and Tina Turner during their live concert at Carnegie Hall. The Ikettes sang the two opening numbers, followed by Ike and Tina performing 16 tracks including renditions of such songs as "Sweet Soul Music", "I've Been Loving You Too Long", "Honky Tonk Women" and "Respect".
Andrew Carnegie served on the boards of the Oratorio Society of New York and the New York Symphony Society and funded construction of the hall for use by the groups. Construction began in 1890. The official opening night was on May 5th of the following year featuring a concert conducted by Walter Damrosch. By the fifties the hall was used by many jazz and pop musicians recording several live albums in the hall.
Recorded in Las Vegas, "Sonny and Cher Live" was the first live album by the duo. "The Everly Brothers Show" was recorded live in 1970 in Anaheim, California. In 2005 Peter and Gordon reunited in New York City as part of a tribute concert for Mike Smith of the Dave Clark Five.

Answer: The Who

"Live at Leeds" was the first live album released by The Who. Tracks for the live album were recorded in February of 1970 at the University of Leeds and in Hull. The tracks recorded in Hull were scrapped due to technical problems with the bass tracks. The first side contained "Young Man Blues", "Substitute", "Summertime Blues" and "Shakin' All Over". Side two only featured two songs; a version of "My Generation" that tracked over 14 minutes and a rendition of "Magic Bus" that lasted over seven minutes.
The album received critical acclaim upon release.
The Rolling Stones' first live album was the 1966 release, "Got Live If You Want It!". "Budapest Live" was a 1984 release from Manfred Mann's Earth band and "Live Cream" was a 1970 release containing recordings from various venues.

Answer: Jefferson Airplane

Four of the ten tracks on Jefferson Airplane's "Bless Its Pointed Little Head" were recorded at the Fillmore East. Tracks including "Somebody to Love" and "Rock Me Baby" were among the six recordings done at Fillmore West. The final track, "Bear Melt", featured an exceptional 11-minute performance highlighted by the rhythm section, drummer Spencer Dryden and bassist Jack Casady.

The album reached Number 17 on the US Billboard album chart. In 2010 "Moby Grape Live" was released containing recordings of several live songs by the band in the sixties at such venues as Avalon Ballroom. "Sly and the Family Stone Concert" was recorded at the Fillmore East in 1968. "Quicksilver Messenger Service - Live at Fillmore" was recorded at Fillmore West the same year.

Answer: Atlanta, Georgia

Atlanta's 5,000 seat Fabulous Fox Theatre was originally designed as a lavish movie theater that opened in 1929. In addition to being a concert venue the theater also hosted the Atlanta Ballet, Broadway shows and summer film series. "One More From the Road" was the only live album from the classic lineup of the band before the 1977 plane crash that claimed the lives of Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines and Cassie Gaines. The double album contained 14 tracks that included classics such as "Sweet Home Alabama", "Gimme Three Steps", "Call Me the Breeze" and closed with an extended version of "Free Bird".

Answer: The Royal Albert Hall

The duo had broken up ten years prior to recording a reunion concert at The Royal Albert Hall. The concert included many of their classic hits including "Wake Up Little Susie", "Crying In The Rain", "Cathy's Clown", "Bird Dog" and "All I Have To Do Is Dream". "Everly Brothers Live" was a later concert album by Phil and Don Everly.

It was recorded in Manchester, England, and released in 1997. The Royal Albert Hall was originally going to be called The Central Hall of Arts and Sciences. Queen Victoria changed the name to Royal Albert Hall of Arts and Sciences in memory of her late husband, Prince Albert. Prince Albert had conceived the idea of construction of a permanent hall after the 1851 Great Exhibition.

The opening ceremony of the Royal Albert Hall was held in March, 1871 and the first concert was Arthur Sullivan's "On Shore and Sea".

Answer: Madison Square Garden

In terms of ticket sales Madison Square Garden is the third busiest music arena in the world. Other significant concerts held at the venue included George Harrison's Concert For Bangladesh and John Lennon's final concert appearance in 1974. Lennon honored an obligation to appear with Elton John during a concert on Thanksgiving night.
The Concert for New York City after the September 11 attacks was also held there. A 1971 revival concert that featured Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry and Ricky Nelson became the inspiration for Nelson's "Garden Party" single released the following year.
The album jacket for "The Song Remains the Same" featured an old movie house in London that was was used by the group for rehearsals before their 1973 tour. The album sold well despite lukewarm critical reviews and featured Led Zeppelin staples including "Whole Lotta Love", "Dazed and Confused", "Rock and Roll" and "Stairway to Heaven".

Answer: Academy of Music in New York City

Between December 28 and New Years Eve, 1971, The Band recorded a series of shows they played at Academy of Music in New York City. Bob Dylan sang on four songs, including a version of his hit, "Like A Rolling Stone".
Allen Toussaint composed the horn arrangements that disappeared when his luggage was lost. He had to rewrite the 11 horn charts in a cabin close to Robbie Robertson's home near Woodstock, New York.
The 18 titles on the 1972 release were originals by the group with the exception of Chuck Willis' "(I Don't Want to) Hang Up My Rock and Roll Shoes". "Like a Rolling Stone" was not included on the final 1972 release but was added to the 2001 re-release.
Academy of Music was built in 1927 as an upscale movie palace that operated as a theater until the early 1970s. When Fillmore East closed in 1971 concerts were booked at the hall and in 1976 it was rechristened The Palladium. In 1999 it was razed so dorms could be built for New York University.

Answer: Cobo Hall

Before "Live Bullet" was recorded at Cobo Hall in September of 1975 Bob Seger had been struggling to break out of becoming a regional success. When the album was released the following year "Travelin' Man" and "Beautiful Loser" were two of the songs from the 14 track double album to get significant national airplay. The live versions of "Lookin' Back" and "Turn the Page" were played more frequently than the studio releases.
Cobo Hall was built in 1960 as a sports complex named in honor of former mayor Albert E. Cobo. In 1994 Olympic figure skater Nancy Kerrigan was assaulted by Shawn Eckardt at the complex.
Some of the many notable live recordings that have been done in whole or in part at the venue through the years included "Captured" by Journey, "The Doors (Live in Detroit)", Madonna's "Live - The Virgin Tour" and "Kiss Alive!". In 2009 Kiss performed at the hall before it was scheduled for extensive renovation beginning in 2011.

Answer: Live at the Harlem Square Club, 1963

When Sam Cooke originally recorded his live performance at The Harlem Square Club it was going to be titled "One Night Stand". It was recorded in January, 1963, and was acclaimed by music critics to be on a par with James Brown's live album done at the Apollo Theater and Jackie Wilson's concert recorded at the Copa. Musicians performing with Cooke included King Curtis on saxophone and Cornell Dupree on guitar.
The album contained many of Cooke's standards including "Bring It On Home to Me", "Chain Gang" and "Cupid".
The Harlem Square Club was located at NW 10th and NW 2nd Ave in Miami near Mount Zion Baptist Church. The Cotton Club has primarily been a jazz venue.
