"Ruby Ann" was co-written by Marty's manager, Lee Emerson Bellamy.
Bellamy was shot to death in 1979 by Barry Sadler, famous for his one-hit-wonder, "The Ballad of the Green Berets".
Sadler was dating Bellamy's ex-girlfriend, and Bellamy had been harassing the couple for weeks.
Sadler was convicted of voluntary manslaughter and sentenced to four-five years in prison but, due to some good lawyering, the sentence was reduced to thirty days. With time off for good behavior, Sadler served only 21 days for the crime.
