Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What album is the song "Miami" on?

Answer: Big Willie Style

The album was released in November of 1997 and was Will Smith's debut solo album. He had previously recorded albums with DJ Jazzy Jeff when Smith was known as the "Fresh Prince." The album also contained another hit with "Gettin' Jiggy wit It."
2. Which of these cities is not mentioned in the song "Miami"?

Answer: Nashville

"Don't get me wrong, Chi-town got it goin' on, and New York is the city that we know don't sleep
And we all know that L.A. and Philly stay jiggy."

Smith was born and raised in Philadelphia, so it shouldn't be a surprise that it was mentioned. While Nashville is known as the "Music City," it isn't referred to in this song.
3. This song, released in 1998, reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Answer: False

The highest it charted was 17th. It did reach number seven on the US Mainstream Top 40, but never came close to number one on the charts. The other hit on the album, "Gettin' Jiggy wit It," did reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
4. What is the missing word to the following lyric: "Yo I heard the ________ain't nothing to mess with but I can't feel a drip on the strip".

Answer: rainstorms

Through May and September, Miami has a rainy season. The yearly average of rainfall is about 60 inches. The first time I went to Miami, it was a bright, sunny day in January with no rain in sight.
5. What is everyday in Miami like, according to the lyrics?

Answer: Mardi Gras

"Everyday like a Mardi Gras. Everybody party all day, no work all play, okay." I always knew Mardi Gras was big in New Orleans, but didn't know there are actually festivals and parties for the occasion in Miami. Miami might not get nearly as many people to show up for the celebration as the Big Easy does, but thousands, nonetheless, still party it up in Miami for the occasion every year.
6. What word is needed in this lyric?: "So we sip a little _________ lay the rest to spill".

Answer: something

"So we sip a little something, lay to rest the spill. Me and Charlie at the bar runnin' up a high bill." I don't normally drink much of anything other than beer, but if I were in Miami partying, I might be inclined to drink something a bit more stout. Maybe a margarita or perhaps a martini. Will Smith's drinking days may be behind him; In 2019 he stated he had not drank alcohol in over a decade.
7. What famous celebrity is mentioned in this song?

Answer: Sylvester Stallone

The lyrics go, "Hundred-thousand dollar cars, e'ybody got em. Ain't no surprise in the club to see Sly, Stallone. Miami, my second home." Stallone, of course, is well known for several movies, including the "Rambo" series and "Rocky" series.
8. How high is the temperature going to reach?

Answer: 500 degrees

"Hottest club in the city, and it's right on the beach. Temperature get to ya, it's about to reach five-hundred degrees in the Caribbean seas." I've been to Miami before and it was pretty hot, but not 500 degrees hot!
9. What kind of car does he have in the song?

Answer: Bentley

"Every time I come to town, they be spottin' me. In the drop Bentley, ain't no stoppin' me." Bentley is an English luxury car brand, founded by Walter Owen Bentley in 1919. I don't think I could ever afford one of these cars.
10. What nationality are the "women with cinnamon tans"?

Answer: Dominican

"I never seen so many Dominican women with cinnamon tans. Mira, this is the plan." The Dominican Republic is about 800 miles away from Miami and is located in the Caribbean.
