Sir Isaac Isaacs was born in 1855, the son of a Polish immigrant who arrived in Australia in 1854. He was first a pupil teacher, then later studied law, became a lawyer and was elected to the Victorian parliament in 1892.
In 1906, he was elected as a member of the High Court of Australia, and became Governor General of Australia in 1930. He died at the age of 92, in 1948.
