Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Judge not, lest ye be judged", as the good book says. My first Deborah can be found among these sacred pages. One more hint - she was in the legal profession. What was this "Deborah"?

Answer: A judge

Deborah is the only female judge mentioned in the Bible. She volunteered for the job when no man would step up. She would sit under a palm tree and people wanting her legal advice would visit her there. She could not hold court in her home because it was against the law for her to be in a house alone with a man.

When Deborah became a judge, Israel was under the thumb of a cruel monarch, King Yavin of Hazor. Deborah commanded her top general, Barak, to take 10,000 men to do battle with Sisera, the opponent's military leader. Barak was reluctant to go into this battle and would only go if Deborah came with him. She complied but told Barak that if they were victorious, then history would record that a woman defeated the enemy. Sisera was heavily favored, having over 900 chariots. But the chariots got stuck in the mud and the Israelites were soon victorious. Sisera, himself, was killed by an Israelite woman, Yale or Jale. Deborah was correct in her prophecy; it is she that people remember, not Barak.
2. My next "Deborah" was a famous movie actress and appeared in "The King and I" (1956) and "Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison" (1956) Who was she?

Answer: Deborah Kerr

Deborah Kerr (1921-2007) was born in Glasgow, Scotland. Ms. Kerr was nominated six times for an Academy Award but never won. In her 40 plus years in Hollywood, she appeared in over 50 films.
3. I always wanted to get up and dance with our next "Debbie". She could tell us what steps to take and when. Who was this "Debbie"?

Answer: Debbie Allen

Debbie Allen, sister of actress Phylicia Rashad, was born in 1950. She starred in the original movie, "Fame" (1980) and also in the television series of the same name that ran from 1982-1987. Ms. Allen did all of the choreographic work for the movie and the television show.

Her character, Lydia Grant, made the now famous statement at the beginning of the movie and the start of the TV show, "You've got big dreams? You want fame? Well, fame costs. And right here is where you start paying ... in sweat."

Debbie Allen was also the choreographer for the Academy Awards for five years in a row.
4. There are several variations of the spelling of "Deborah" and "Debbie". I was thinking of the actress who had appeared for many years on the soap opera "All My Children" (1970). How did Ms. Morgan spell her first name?

Answer: Debbi

On "All My Children" (1970), Debbi Morgan portrayed Angie Baxter Hubbard from 1982 until 1990. After leaving the show, Debbi was in several other soap operas but returned to "All My Children" (1970) in 2008.

Debbi Morgan should not be confused with Debra Morgan, a fictional character on Showtime's "Dexter" (2006) nor with Deborah Morgan, an author of mystery novels.
5. This "Deb" could really light up your life! Her father was also a famous singer. Who was she?

Answer: Debby Boone

Debby Boone was one of four daughters born to Pat Boone and Shirley Lee Foley Boone. "You Light Up My Life" (1977) topped the music charts for ten weeks. Ms. Boone won a Grammy Award for Best New Artist because of this song.

The song originally was part of the movie also entitled "You Light Up My Life" (1977). It also won the Academy Award for best song. Since Debby recorded it, LeeAnn Rimes, Whitney Houston, Robert Goulet and many others have recorded it.

Here are the lyrics for your enjoyment. Please feel free to sing along!

So many nights I sit by my window
Waiting for someone to sing me his song
So many dreams I kept deep inside me
Alone in the dark but now
You've come along

You light up my life
You give me hope
To carry on
You light up my days
and fill my nights with song

Rollin' at sea, adrift on the water
Could it be finally I'm turning for home?
Finally, a chance to say hey,
I love You
Never again to be all alone

You light up my life
You give me hope
To carry on
You light up my days
and fill my nights with song

You light up my life
You give me hope
To carry on
You light up my days
and fill my nights with song

It can't be wrong
When it feels so right
'Cause You
You light up my life
