Answer: Margaret Thatcher

Mrs Thatcher was born on 13 October 1925 in Grantham and died on 8 April 2013. She was elected leader of the Conservative Party in 1975 and became the UK's first female Prime Minister in 1979. She was the only British Prime Minister in the 20th century to be elected for three successive terms, finally resigning in 1990 and letting John Major take over. During her time as Prime Minister she became known as the 'Iron Lady'.

Answer: Alfred Lord Tennyson

Alfred, Lord Tennyson was born on the 5th August 1809 in Somersby. Other well known poems include 'Farewell', 'All Things Will Die', 'Home They Brought Her Warrior Dead', and many others. Tennyson died of gout on 6th October 1892 and was buried in Poets corner in Westminster Abbey.

Newton was born on Christmas Day 1642 near Grantham. He is best known for his study of physics and the laws of gravity. He also invented the first reflecting telescope. He was the first man to be knighted for scientific work, receiving this honour from Queen Anne in 1705.

Captain John Smith was born in 1580 in Willoughby. By the age of 24 he had served in the Dutch Wars and in the Near East and escaped Turkish captors. He became interested in the Virginia Company and wanted to be one of the first settlers in 1606. He moved to North America, established colonies and became Governor of Virginia, later returning to England pennyless to be a writer.

Smith died in London in June 1631. In the 1995 movie, Smith was voiced by Mel Gibson. The movie tells the story of Smith's adventures in America and creates a fictional romance with Pocahontas. In reality once married she once visited him in England following their meeting in the USA.

Colin Dexter was born in 1930 in Stamford. Since 1966 he has lived in Oxford where the Inspector Morse novels are set. His first novel, "Last Bus To Woodstock" was published in 1975 and Inspector Morse has since appeared in 13 novels and numerous short stories, later being adapted for the small screen and starring John Thaw and Kevin Whately.

Liz Smith was born on 11th December 1921 in Scunthorpe. She is best known for her appearances in sitcoms such as "The Vicar of Dibley", "The Royle Family" and the children's series "Pirates". Her other TV roles include characters in "Emmerdale", "I Didn't Know You Cared", "Within These Walls", "The Bill" and "2 point4 Children".

She appeared as Grandma Georgina in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and provided the voice of Mrs. Mulch in "Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit".

Taupin was born in Anwick near Sleaford on 22nd May 1950. In 1967, he answered an advertisement for a lyric-writer which began the team of Elton John and Bernie Taupin who have collaborated on over 30 albums. His creations include "Candle in the Wind", "Don't Let the Sun Go down on Me", "Your Song".

He also wrote "We Built This City" which became a hit. In 2006, he won a Golden Globe Award for 'A Love That will Never Grow Old' from the film "Brokeback Mountain".

Michael Foale was born in Louth on 6th January 1957. He was selected as an astronaut by NASA in 1987 and has spent over 178 days in space and more than 18 hours of spacewalk time. He also lived on the Mir for four-and-a-half months in 1997.

Jim Broadbent was born on 24th May 1949 in Lincoln. He made his film debut in 1978 in "The Shout" and had his television debut in the following year. He played DCI Roy Slater in "Only Fools and Horses" and had originally been offered the lead role of Del Trotter. He has stared in many other dramas and films including "The Crying Game", "Enchanted April", "Bullets over Broadway", "Gangs of New York", "The Borrowers", "Little Voice" and "Topsy-Turvy".

In 2001 he won a BAFTA for his role in "Moulin Rouge" and an Oscar for "Iris". He has also provided his voice for blockbuster films such as "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe", "Valiant", "The Magic Roundabout" and "Robots".

Henry IV was born at Bolingbroke Castle. He ruled from 30th September 1399 until 20th March 1413. He spent much of his reign defending himself against plots, rebellions and assassination attempts. In the later years of his reign he suffered serious health problems and had a disfiguring skin disease. Eventually he was buried at Canterbury Cathedral.

Tony Jacklin was born on 7th July 1944 in Scunthorpe. In 1969 he won the Open, being the first British player to win in 18 years. The following year he won the US Open and became the first player to hold both titles at the same time.
He was also the first Briton to win the US Open for over 70 years. In 1985 he captained the Ryder Cup winning team.

Joe Brown was on 13th May 1941 in Swarby. He stated his career as a support artist to performers such as Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent and played lead guitar on Billy Fury's album "The Sound of Fury". His best known works are "What a Crazy World We're Living in" and "Picture of You".

He appeared in films, pantomimes and musicals and presented his own children's television series, Joe & Co, on the BBC. He formed the band, "Brown's Home Brew", with his wife.

Raymond Neal Clemence, MBE, was born on 5th August 1948 in Skegness. He was one of English and European football's best players and was part the Liverpool's winning teams of the 1970s. He retired from international football in the 1980s with a total of 61 caps. He retired from playing in 1988 to join the coaching staff at Spurs and became manager of Barnet in 1994. Three years later he became a goalkeeping coach for the England team.
