Ernest Hemingway was born on July 21, 1899 in Oak Park, Illinois. His wives were Elizabeth Hadley Richardson, Pauline Pfeiffer, Martha Gellhorn, and Mary Welsh Hemingway. Since marrying his first wife in 1921, the longest he went without a wife was only about a year.

Alexandre Dumas's birth name was Dumas Davy de la Pailleterie. He was born on July 24, 1802, in Villers-Cotterźts, Aisne, France. His father, who was born in modern day Haiti, was the son of a French nobleman and a black slave. Some of Alexandre's most popular books include "The Three Musketeers" (1844) and "The Count of Monte Cristo" (1844-45). Along with novels, he also wrote some plays.

He died on December 5, 1870 at the age of 68.

Lev Nikolayevich ("Leo") Tolstoy was born on September 9, 1828 near Tula, Russia. He married Sophia Behera in 1862. They had thirteen children, five of whom died before reaching the age of eight. He also had one son by a serf that worked for him. Some of his best known works includes the novels "War and Peace" (1869) and "Anna Karenina" (1877).

Many of his nonfiction works centered on philosophy. He died of pneumonia on November 20, 1910 at the age of 82.

She died on July 18, 1817 when she was 41 years old.
