King John of England is famous for two things in English history. Firstly his signing of the Magna carta, which meant the loss of power for the king given to the barons. He also managed to lose the crown jewels while travelling back to London.
2. Which John wrote "The Three Hostages" "Mr Standfast" and "The Thirty-Nine Steps"?

Answer: John Buchan

John Buchan was the author of the books, the most famous being "The Thirty-Nine Steps" which has been made into a film several times and as a TV series. The best of these films was directed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1935.
3. Pope John Paul II was the first non-Italian Pope since 1522. Who was the previous non-Italian Pope?

John Paul the I was succeeded by John Paul II in 1978, his death was in 2005. John Paul II was Polish, he was born in Wadowice and christened Karol Józef Wojtyla. He was archbishop of Kraków from 1964 until he was elected pope in 1978.

He was one of the first people to sign the United States Declaration of Independence, his signature is very clear, and so Americans nickname a signature a John Hancock or a Hancock. He was the first and third Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
