He has been credited as the "Father of Western Medicine" for his contributions in the field of medicine and is credited with creating the Hippocratic Oath.
2. What famous "first" did Christiaan Barnard perform in 1967?

Answer: The first heart transplant

He performed the first heart transplant on a 54 year old man. It took nine hours with a team of thirty people to complete. The patient died 18 days later of pneumonia, not heart disease.
3. Do you know what Henry Norman Bethune did?

Answer: Developed M.A.S.H. units

Bethune was a Canadian doctor and medical developer of M. A.S.H. (Mobile Army Surgical Hospital). He also developed a Mobile Blood Transfusion device during the Spanish Civil War.

Benzylpenicillin (penicillin G) and liysozme.
He received and shared the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1945 with Howard Florey and Ernst Chain; for their respective roles in the discovery and development of penicillin. His accidental discovery of penicillin G has saved countless lives.
Florey and Chain conducted the first clinical trials of Fleming's discovery (they were able to isolate Fleming's discovery, and produce it).

He graduated with a degree in neurology from the University of Vienna in 1881 and conducted research into cerebral palsy, aphasia and microscopic neuroanatomy. He created psychoanalysis, which is what he is most famous for.

As a thoracic surgeon he has developed the Heimlich Maneuver to stop people from choking. His other inventions include the Micro Trach and the Portable Oxygen System.
