Lilian's second husband Earl after reading the draft suggested she resubmit the book. 'Ward'-was her mother's maiden name and 'Jackson'-Lilian's last name. Archie Riker and James Mackintosh Qwilleran are characters in her cat who stories. Jackson Ward is her pen name backwards. She felt that as a girl writer during this time she wouldn't get published so she created her pen name.
