Answer: Kathy Devine

Kathy Devine was a runaway. She was last seen by friends hitchhiking on November 25, 1973. Unfortunately for the investigators, there was hardly any evidence where Kathy was found.

She was immediately taken to the hospital where she was given emergency brain surgery to alleviate the pressure on her brain. Shortly afterwards she slipped into a coma, and remained in the coma for a few months.

When she awoke, she couldn't remember the night she was attacked. Joni was lucky to be alive, although she suffers from permanent brain damage from the vicious attack.

Answer: In all instances the man was wearing a cast on his arm or leg.

At the time of these disappearances, the police interviewed several college students who said the man was wearing a cast, either on his arm or his leg. In all of the instances the man asked for help with his books so he could get to his car, which was a VW Bug.

Answer: Lake Sammamish

That afternoon, around where she disappeared, a man who wore a cast and asked for help with his boat approached a couple of women. They were unable to assist the attractive young man. However, Denise Naslund was the kind of girl to help someone in need, especially someone with a broken arm. This act of kindness cost Denise her life. Denise Naslund was not the last woman to disappear and be found dead.

The last people to have seen Janice Ott, a couple picnicking near by, remembered a handsome young man approaching the young woman. From what the couple could hear from the conversation between Ott and the young man, his name was Ted and he had difficulty loading his boat onto his car due to a broken arm. He asked Ott for assistance and she agreed to help. That was the last time twenty-three-year-old Janice Ott was seen alive. Police never thought that the killer would use his real name, and they were surprised when they realized he did. In August 1974, the remains of Janice Ott and Denise Naslund were found. Answer: Officer Roseland

At first, Carol DaRonch thought Bundy was a security officer at the mall, until he said his name was Officer Roseland. Carol walked back to her car with Officer Roseland so she could fill out a complaint. When she approached her car, she found that nothing was damaged or stolen. Roseland then told her that he told his partner to take him to headquarters. Roseland then told her that she should come with him to the station to fill out the complaint. Carol, hearing this, became a little unnerved and asked to see some identification. Roseland quickly flashed a badge, and had Carol get in the car. Carol took notice that the car was a tan or gold colored VW Bug.

She also noticed that Roseland was wearing patent leather, and that he walked funny. During the ride, Roseland tried to handcuff her to the steering wheel, but failed to do so. Carol opened the car door and jumped out.

The last time Gadowski saw her was when she went into the elevator, he never saw her after that. A month and a half later, the nude body of Caryn Campbell was found several miles from where she was kidnapped. The coroner confirmed that she died a few hours after she was kidnapped because of the food contents in her still preserved stomach.

The cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head, she was also raped. Unfortunately, there was little evidence at the scene.

Answer: Bob Hayward

Officer Bob Hayward was in his patrol car when he spotted a tan colored VW Bug driving suspiciously in a middle class neighborhood. Hayward gave chase and called for backup. When the officers looked in the trunk of the car they found: a crowbar, ski mask, rope, handcuffs, wire and an ice pick. They arrested Bundy because they thought he was a burglar. Soon after Bundy's arrest, the police realized he bore a striking resemblance to the sketch of the man who almost kidnapped Carol DaRonch. The police decided to keep Bundy under surveillance.

On October 2, 1975, Carol DaRonch was asked to view a lineup, and if possible, pick out the person who tried to kidnap her. Unfortunately for Ted Bundy, DaRonch identified him as her attacker. Even though Bundy professed his innocence, the police knew they had their man.

Answer: February 23, 1976

When Carol DaRonch took the witness stand, Bundy stared coldly at her. Even when she began to cry while describing her ordeal, he only stared. Bundy believed that there was no hard evidence to convict him, so he professed his innocence during the entire trial. Two days after the trial began, the judge found Bundy guilty of aggravated kidnapping, and remitted him to the Utah State Prison from one to fifteen years, with the possibilty of parole. During this time, investigators from Colorado, Utah, Oregon, and Washington continued to investigate the cases of all the missing women in their states.

He survived off the food he stole from area cabins. As night fell on the sixth day of his escape, Bundy stole a car that was left with keys in it. A short while later a car was spotted by two policemen, driving erratically. When the police pulled the car over, they were shocked to discover Bundy behind the wheel. Bundy was recaptured six days after he jumped from the window of the courthouse.

Neary said that when she came home she was surprised to find that the door was wide open.

When she entered the house, unbeknownst to Bundy, she saw a man running down the steps and out the door. Neary then went upstairs and awakened her roomate, Nancy Dowdy.

She told Dowdy about the man she had seen, and they both of them went to see if the other girls were okay. As they were on their way to the housemother's room, they came upon Karen Chandler staggering down the hallway, bleeding profusely from the head. Neary left Dowdy to look after Karen while she ran to the housemother's room.

The housemother and Neary started checking on the other girls. They discovered Kathy Klein alive, but in a horrible state, bleeding from the head.

They immediately called the police. Upon the arrival of the police, two more girls, Lisa Levy and Margaret Bowman, were discovered murdered. The pathologist said that Lisa was beaten over the head with a log, strangled, and raped. While Margaret suffered from the same injuries, with the exception of being raped. On this same night, less than a mile away, two young women, Debbie Ciccarelli and Nancy Young, called the police because they heard their neighbor moaning, as if she was in pain. When the police arrived, they discovered Cheryl Thompson, barely alive. She was beaten so severely, that her entire face was swollen and she had multiple fractures to her skull. On this night, police found a mountain of evidence: hair, a mask, blood, and most important of all, teeth marks which were found on the body of Lisa Levy. Unfortunately, the police had no suspects. Bundy was still unknown to them. This was to change once the King County and Aspen detectives learned about this horrible night.

Answer: Kimberly Leach

Kimberly Leach was 12 years old at the time of her murder. She was last seen, by her best friend Priscilla Blakney, getting into a van with a man. 19. How many trials did Bundy have in Florida?

Answer: 3

Bundy was tried for the Chi Omega murders on February 22, 1979. Three months later he was tried for the attacks on the surviving victims of Chi Omega, and on January 7, 1980, Bundy was tried for the murder of 12 year old Kimberly Leach. For all three trials, Bundy received the death penalty.
20. When was Theodore Robert Bundy finally executed?

Answer: January 24, 1989

From 1980 until 1989, Bundy was given many appeals, but he never won any of them. In 1985, Bundy offered his help in the Green River Killer investigation. In 1988, Bundy confessed to 28 murders, although when he was arrested in Florida he told the investigators that his victims could be counted in three digits, with at least six states involved. For Bundy to confess to any murder meant that he was at the end of his rope. On the eve of his execution, Bundy gave a last interview to Robert Keppel, the man who hunted him for so long.

Finally, on January 24, 1989, 200,000 volts of electricity surged through his body. The night before the execution, the governor urged the citizens of Florida not to use any electricity so they could have the utmost voltage for when Bundy was executed. Ted Bundy is dead, but he lives on in infamy. All information can be found at www.CrimeLibrary.com, the book "The Deliberate Stranger," and "The Stranger Beside Me" by Anne Rule.
