Answer: Valerie Bertinelli

Bertinelli is an actor who has starred in several TV shows, including "One Day at a Time" and "Hot in Cleveland". She was once married to legendary guitarist Eddie Van Halen, who died in 2020. She has been the host of shows on The Food Network and she wrote a cookbook titled "Valerie's Home Cooking". She spoke about choices in a "Good Housekeeping" interview in 2011.

Answer: Margaret H. Hamilton

Margaret Hamilton is a computer scientist. She oversaw the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's engineering group that devised in-flight software for NASA's Apollo space program. She is co-founder of two tech companies: Higher Order Software and Hamilton Technologies.

In 2016 she received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Barack Obama. Her "choice" quote is from an MIT news story in 2009.

Renowned as one the classic British Romantic poets, Byron published an autobiographical work of verse "Childe Harold's Pilgrimage" over the years 1812-1818. The "choice" quote comes from Byron's "Don Juan", which he published piecemeal beginning in 1819. Byron died in 1824 ... before he had a chance to finish his epic poem.

Neil Peart was the drummer and principal lyricist for the Canadian rock band Rush. Peart also wrote nonfiction travel books, including "Ghost Rider: Travels on the Healing Road". He died of brain cancer in 2020. The quote is from the song "Freewill" on the Rush album "Permanent Waves" released in 1980.

Henry Ward Beecher was a preacher, a teacher, an abolitionist and brother to Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of "Uncle Tom's Cabin". The quote is from the 1858 book "Life Thoughts: Gathered from the Extemporaneous Discourses of Henry Ward Beecher" by Beecher and Edna Dean Proctor.

Answer: J.K. Rowling

In the decade between 1997 and 2007, Rowling wrote the seven core Harry Potter books. She continues to write books, including "The Casual Vacancy" (a novel for adults published in 2012) and "The Ickabog" (published in 2020). On her official website she says she has chosen for royalties from "The Ickabog" to go towards helping people who were adversely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The quote comes from Jobs' 2005 commencement address at Stanford University. Jobs died in 2011 at the age of 56.

Born in 1903, the Polish American author was known for writing in Yiddish. Singer wrote more than 30 books in his lifetime, well into the 1980s -- when he began to experience dementia. He won the 1978 Nobel Prize in Literature. He died in 1991. The "choice" quote comes from "The Times" of London in 1982.
