Alec Douglas-Home gained national prominence while at university for his athletic abilities in first-class cricket and a racket sport known as Eton Fives. Born into an aristocratic family Alec Douglas-Home would serve in the House of Commons, the House of Lords, and as Foreign Secretary.

When Douglas-Home became Prime Minister in 1963 he had to disclaim his earldom and others peerages in order to enter the House of Commons. (He also had to win a bye-election).
