Irwin was a worldwide television star and was known for his eccentric ways and no fear approach to animals. He once held his son while feeding a crocodile for one of his shows which caused controversy and concerned members of the public.

He was unfortunately killed by a stingray whilst he was filming for a television show. According to a witness, the stingray reacted defensively to Irwin's presence and pierced his chest several times.
