David Essex, born in 1947, was an English singer, songwriter and actor. Although he started his musical career in the early 1960s his first hit was in 1973 with "Rock On".

Novelist Karen Essex was born in New Orleans. She was educated at Tulane and received an MFA in Writing. She also worked as a journalist and screenwriter. Some of her books are "Leonardo's Swans" (2006), "Stealing Athena" (2008), "Dracula in Love" ( 2010) and "Kleopatra" (2001).
