Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 1978, who became the first motor racing driver ever to win the Indianapolis 500, Daytona 500 and the Formula One World Championship?

Answer: Mario Andretti

Andretti was a supremely gifted racing driver, also becoming the first driver to have won IndyCar races in four different decades following his 1993 victory at Phoenix International Raceway.

He founded his winery and vineyard in the Napa Valley of California in 1996, with long time friend Joe Antonini, the former CEO of Kmart and their Chardonnay attracts much praise for its buttery, oaky taste, along with a robust Pinot Noir, with savoury tastes of bacon fat and smoke mingling with the red berries.
2. Who played Elwood Blues in the 1980 movie, "The Blues Brothers" and was nominated for an Oscar for his part in the movie "Driving Miss Daisy" (1989)?

Answer: Dan Aykroyd

Dan Aykroyd is the answer, although he has starred alongside the other three possible answers, so any confusion is excused. John Belushi played Jake Blues in "The Blues Brothers" (1980) and John Goodman played "Mighty" Mack McTeer in the follow up, "Blues Bothers 2000" (1998), while Chris Farley played Tommy Callahan III in "Tommy Boy" (1995), opposite Aykroyd's portrayal of his rival auto parts manufacturer, Ray Zalinsky.

Aykroyd is part owner of several wineries along the Niagara peninsula of Canada, and his Cabernet Shiraz and Cabernet Merlot blends are always a treat. Aykroyd is also one of the owners of Crystal Head vodka.
3. In 2019, who was elected Speaker of the United States House of Representatives for a second non consecutive time?

Answer: Nancy Pelosi

In 2007, Pelosi made history by becoming the first woman to be elected to the post, and she retained the position in the 2009 election before being Republican, John Boehner in 2011, but in 2019, she beat out Kevin McCarthy to win a little over 51% of the vote and be re elected after an eight year absence.

Pelosi owns two wineries in California and mainly sells the grapes to other vintners rather than producing her own wines.
4. Who is the lead vocalist for rock bands Tool and A Perfect Circle?

Answer: Maynard James Keenan

Keenan also supplies vocals for the rock band Puscifer and following the death of Layne Staley in 2004, stood in as vocalist for Alice In Chains when they reformed in 2005 for a charity concert to benefit victims of the Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami of 2004.

Keenan owns Merkin vineyards in Arizona. When his mother, Judith died in 2003, he scattered her ashes in his vineyard and later released a Cabernet Sauvignon named "Nagual del Judith", which was the first made entirely with grapes from Merkin Vineyards.
5. Which actor, nominated for an Oscar for 1990s "Cyrano de Bergerac" gained Russian citizenship in 2013 and also became the country's ambassador to Montenegro?

Answer: Gerard Depardieu

Depardieu is one of France's leading actors and although he may have only one Oscar nomination, he has amassed an impressive 17 Cesar nominations in the country.

He has owned the Chateau de Tigne winery in the Loire Valley of France since 1989, although how they make a profit is unknown, as Depardieu said in an interview with "So Film" that he is capable of drinking 14 bottles of wine a day! In 2018, Depardieu's Pinot Noir 2016 won an Award of Excellence at the National Vinalies Contest.
6. In 2009, who became the first living British golfer to receive a knighthood?

Answer: Nick Faldo

I say living golfer because Henry Cotton was knighted, but although he accepted the offer in 1987, he then died before the ceremony in 1988. Faldo has won 6 major championships and made 11 Ryder Cup appearances which is all the more astounding when you remember that until he watched the Ryder Cup on TV in 1971, aged 14, he had never picked up a golf club.

Faldo owns a vineyard in the Coonawarra wine region of Australia which is an excellent area for award winning Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz.
7. Who was nominated for an Oscar for Best Director in 1972, 1979 and 1990 in addition to his win in 1974 for "The Godfather Part II"?

Answer: Francis Ford Coppola

Coppola's non winning nominations were "The Godfather" (1972), "Apocalypse Now" (1979) and "The Godfather Part III" (1990). Although both "The Godfather" and "The Godfather Part II" won the best picture Oscar, he was beaten to the director's Oscar in 1973 by Bob Fosse for "Cabaret" (1972).

Coppola's winery won Winery of the Year at the 2017 San Francisco International Wine Competition and his wines won three gold medals and three double golds at the same event.
8. Which Irish comedian and chat show host has written his autobiography in two parts, "So Me" in 2004 and "The Life and Loves of a He Devil" in 2014?

Answer: Graham Norton

Norton is one of the BBC's highest paid presenters and has slipped effortlessly into many of the roles vacated by the death of Sir Terry Wogan, but doing so with his own brand of charm and humour. As well as his hugely successful TV chat show, he also presents a show on BBC Radio 2 and is the host of the annual events, the Eurovision Song Contest and Children In Need.

Norton owns a share in Invivo Wines of New Zealand and collaborates closely with the vinter to make a delightful Sauvignon Blanc, which coincidentally is Norton's favourite wine.
9. Which French footballer made his name at Paris St. Germain in the 1990s before going on to play for Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League?

Answer: David Ginola

Ginola was a winger with an incredible ability to control the ball and beat opposition players. He scored 22 Premier League goals and won the praise of former Dutch maestro who once called Ginola the best player in the world.

In 2008, Ginola's rose wine, Coste Brulade 2007 won a silver medal at the International Wine Challenge. It was launched in UK with an advertising campaign featuring ex England manager, Kevin Keegan.
10. Two American presidents have stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. One is Ronald Reagan and who is the other?

Answer: Donald Trump

Trump has a star here for his work as a reality TV host, and there have been several discussions over whether it should be removed or relocated due to constant vandalism by political opponents.

Trump Winery in Virginia is the largest winery in the state, covering 1,300 acres. Their 2016 New World Reserve Red, 2017 Rose and 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon are all competition gold medal winning wines.
