Margaret Preston was one of the first European-Australian artists to study and acknowledge the importance of Aboriginal art. Many Aboriginal motifs can be seen in her paintings.
2. Born in Melbourne in 1917, this modernist painter is particularly famous for a series of 27 naive paintings of the life of Ned Kelly, Australia's most notorious bushranger.

Answer: Sidney Nolan

Sir Sidney Nolan re-invigorated Australian art in the 1940s and 1950s both for his paintings of Ned Kelly, but also with his new interpretations of remote Australian landscapes.

Arthur Boyd's paintings are sometimes quite disturbing as much of his painting is drawn from his experiences in the Second World War, as well as what he saw of the effect of European culture on Aboriginal life during his travels throughout country Australia. Boyd is also famous for his depictions of Biblical figures relocated to Australian landscapes.
