Sam Malone is a fictional character and a former relief pitcher for the Boston Red Sox baseball team and is the owner of the bar in the television sitcom series "Cheers" (1982-1993). The character of Sam Malone is played by Ted Danson and although the owner and bartender of the bar, he is a recovering alcoholic and womaniser. During the shows eleven seasons it received 111 Primetime Emmy Award nominations, winning 28.
