He declared himself president in 1987 and has ruled Zimbabwe with an iron fist since and was still in power 30 years later. Ho Chi Minh was born in 1890 and came to power in Communist North Vietnam shortly after the colonial power, France, agreed to split Vietnam in 1954 following defeat at the hands of the Communist Viet Minh.

He became the oldest astronaut to fly in space when in 1998 he flew on the shuttle Discovery at the age of 77. Jim Lovell was born in 1928. He was commander of Apollo 8 and also the ill-fated Apollo 13 which almost didn't make it back home and was the subject of a major film by Ron Howard.
