Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first Wright I tried is the younger partner in a bicycle shop, which Wright brother will I be writing to?

Answer: Orville

Wilbur and Orville opened their bicycle shop, the "Wright Cycle Exchange" in 1892 in Dayton, Ohio. They designed and produced their own bicycles brands called the Van Cleves and the St. Clair. The Van Cleves were some of Dayton's first settlers and the Wright family was descended from them. These two brothers were also famous for something else, but it has just flown out of my mind and I cannot remember what it was.
2. The next Rights I will try are actually named Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield. Which of the listed songs is NOT by the Righteous Brothers?

Answer: I Want You Back

"I Want You Back" was a song by another group of brothers calling themselves the Jackson Five. The Jackson Five was one of the biggest pop groups of the 1970s. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. Jermaine Jackson and a sister, Janet, went on to have solo careers. And I think one of the other brothers also did quite well for himself, and his rat Ben.
3. Maybe it is actually Cartwright I have to contact. Which one of the following is the father Cartwright?

Answer: Ben

Ben Cartwright was played by Lorne Greene, who went on to become Commander Adama in "Battlestar Galactica". Lorne met up with Joe again in an episode of "Highway to Heaven". Joe was played by Michael Landon, who had a little house on the prairie.
4. It could be the other Cartwright Brothers I am after. What is the name of the back up group for Mark Nelson and Jeff Schwebach?

Answer: The Split Pea Band

The Cartwright Brothers are a music/comedy act from South Dakota. Mark Nelsson is the long haired one and comes from Yankton in South Dakota, whilst Jeff Schewebach is from Dell Rapids. The Split Pea Band describe themselves as "very similar to Robin Hood's band of merry men in the fact that they're very merry, seldom seen and they expect their leaders to pick up the bar tab."
5. Perhaps it is George Melendez Wright that I have to write to. George was an assistant park naturalist in Yosemite Valley and had concerns about the domestication of wild animals and was a pioneer of scientific wildlife conservation and management. What is the name of the Society formed in his honour?

Answer: George Wright Society

Founded in 1980, the George Wright Society is dedicated to the protection, preservation, and management of cultural and natural parks and reserves through research and education. The stated goal of the George Wright Society is: "The Society strives to be the premier organization connecting people, places, knowledge, and ideas to foster excellence in natural and cultural resource management, research, protection, and interpretation in parks and equivalent reserves."
6. The next Wright I am going to try is John Wright, former captain of the New Zealand cricket team. After his retirement from playing the game he did a five year stint as the coach of the Indian cricket team. Who took over the coaching of the Indians when he finished coaching in 2005?

Answer: Greg Chappell

Greg Chappell is one of three brothers that played test cricket for Australia. In his first match he scored a century, but the television viewers never got to see it as the broadcaster put on their scheduled weather report just as it happened. The Chappells' father, Martin, was a noted grade cricketer in Adelaide who put bats in his sons' hands as soon as they could walk.
7. It is possible that I have to contact Elizabeth Wright, a Paralympic Games swimmer. What event did she get a bronze medal at the 1996 Atlanta Games?

Answer: Women's 50m Butterfly S6

Swimmers with physical disabilities are allocated a category between 1 and 10, with 1 corresponding to the most severe types of disability. Physical disabilities of Paralympic swimmers include single or multiple limb loss (through birth defects and/or amputation). Elizabeth was born with a congenital limb deficiency - her right arm is missing below the elbow.
8. Could it be Norma Jean Wright the lead vocalist of the disco group Chic, that I have to contact? What was the name of the female trio she sang with before joining Chic?

Answer: The Topettes

After Norma Jean left Chic to concentrate on a solo career she had a couple of top 20 songs, "Saturday" and "High Society". Among other things, Norma Jean has been a backing vocalist for C+C Music Factory, Randy Crawford, Aretha Franklin, Fantasy, Debbie Gibson, Madonna, and Sister Sledge.
9. I am planning a trip to the US in 2013, with a stopover in London. Perhaps it is the Wright Brothers Oyster & Porter House restaurant that I have to contact. Which rocky street near London Bridge is it located on?

Answer: Stoney Street

One reviewer of this restaurant said it is "Packed with business types at lunchtime this cosy authentic spot in Borough Market is a real treat for fans of super fresh seafood, oysters and good wine."
10. Maybe it is about the yacht I have ordered and I have to get in touch with Norman R Wright and Sons. They have been building sailing and motor yachts for over a hundred years. What was the first name of the orginal founder?

Answer: Norman

Norman R Wright was established in 1909, and in 2013 had a staff of 60, although during the Second World War there were over 300 making cruising PT patrol boats for the Australian Navy. The company is run by the grandsons of the original owner. Unfortunately they do not have a yacht ready for me.
