Glenn (Doc) Rivers played basketball at Marquette University in Milwaukee. While attending a basketball camp there, he was wearing a Dr J (Julius Erving) tee shirt and coach Rick Majerus called him Doc, which stuck. Rivers had a 14 year career in the NBA, primarily with Atlanta with later stops in Los Angeles, New York, and San Antonio.

He later became a successful coach, starting in 2003 with Orlando with later stops in Boston and Los Angeles.

Red Grange was one of the most famous stars in what has the been called the golden decade of American sports (the 1920s). He was a three-time All American football player at Illinois and later starred for the Chicago Bears professional team. He had a legendary game against the powerful University of Michigan team, in which he scored six touchdowns - the shortest being a 44 yard run. Four of those touchdowns occurred in the first 12 minutes of the game.

When he graduated from college, he signed the largest contract at that time with Chicago and helped draw record crowds to his games - perhaps saving the struggling league.

Auerbach was the son of Russian immigrants, who was one of the most successful coaches in basketball history with the Boston Celtics. He is responsible for many landmark social changes in the league (first African American player drafted, first all African American starting lineup, and hiring the first African American coach in the league). Auerbach is also famous for his practice of lighting a celebratory cigar before the conclusion of a game when he considered the game already won.

Tip O'Neill was the long-serving Speaker of the House of Representatives, serving the third longest stint in its history behind Sam Rayburn and Henry Clay. O'Neill's nickname supposed came from from young friends after a baseball player James "Tip" O'Neill.

He deferred playing in the NFL until attending Oxford on his scholarship. While in England, he became friends with John Kennedy. He probably would have transitioned well into "talkies"; however he was involved in one of the first Hollywood scandals. He was accused of rape and manslaughter in the death of aspiring actress Virginia Rappe. The first two trials ended in hung juries and the third with his acquittal. However, his career was finished due to the unfavorable publicity and copies of many of his movies were destroyed.

The actress had a medical condition that was aggravated by her overuse of alcohol. Many think that Hearst and the yellow press inflamed the incident and an ambitious DA attempted to use it as a springboard to higher office. Arbuckle died of a heart attack while attempting tp produce some films under a pseudonym.

Goose Tatum was the Clown Prince of the Harlem Globetrotters, known for his comedic routines - many of which were based on his extraordinary arm span of seven feet. Tatum was actually discovered by Abe Saperstein, the founder of the Globetrotters, while playing baseball in the Negro leagues. Tatum was a rather ordinary baseball player, but had developed a number of entertaining comedy routines while playing. Tatum served in World War II and resumed his career with the Globetrotters, regarded as the ambassadors of basketball. Tatum was also enshrined in the basketball Hall of Fame in 2011.

Hoagland Hoagland Carmichael wrote the music for such classic songs as Stardust, Georgia on My Mind, The Nearness of You, and Heart and Soul. He won five world championshios in his career and was later selected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
