Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 1900 this man asked his Bible school students to discover Biblical evidence for the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. Their conclusions led to the eventual establishment of the Assemblies of God.

Answer: Charles Parham

For approximately nine years Charles Parham led religious revivals teaching that Baptism in the Holy Spirit was evidenced by "speaking in tongues". Believers were known as Pentecostals, named after the Day of Pentecost described in Acts 2. H. G. Rogers lead an independent Pentecostal movement that was merged with Eudorus Bell's group. 2. What triggered the spread of Pentecostalism throughout the United States and launched the Assemblies of God denomination as a worldwide movement?

Answer: Azusa Street Revival

This downtown Los Angeles revival was led by an African American preacher, William J. Seymour. Lasting three years (1906-1909) the revival not only crossed racial lines, but it promoted women in leadership roles - very unpopular opinions for the time. Because of the resulting proliferation of Pentecostal churches, leaders of the movement felt that some type of formal organization was needed to keep the momentum going.
