Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A centurion in charge of Roman soldiers named Cornelius, the apostle Paul, and an Ethiopian eunuch all have something in common. What was ---?

Answer: they were early converts to Christianity

The centurion, the apostle and the eunuch were each converted to Christianity during the early days of the church. These three men, who were descendants of Noah's sons, Japheth, Shem, and Ham respectively, represent a complete cross-section of mankind. With their individual conversions, ALL of the sons of Noah are thus shown to be chosen by God, and by extension this principle of inclusion may be seen to apply to ALL people today who will accept Him as Lord. Christians, of course, believe that it is through an individual's acceptance of Jesus as being the first-born Son of God that this inclusion occurs.
2. One of Jesus' disciples, Simon Peter and the high priest who was in charge of the temple during the time of Jesus' crucifixion, Caiaphas, had something in common. What was ---?

Answer: their names had similar meanings

The name that Jesus gave to Simon Peter was "Cephas", (pronounced Keef-as). It's meaning is something akin to a hollow rock, or a place of refuge in the earth and a place of protection.
The name for the high priest of Jesus' day was "Caiaphas", which has a similar sound and meaning, but means something more like a depression in the earth, or a dell. Both names are from the Chaldee language, and were translated into Aramaic and later into Greek.
3. The Old Testament books of Jonah, Micah and Nahum all make reference to the same place, the ruins of which are located in modern-day Iraq, just across the river from the city of Mosul. What was ---?

Answer: Nineveh

All three books tell segments of the same story. The beginning of the saga of what happened to the citizens of Nineveh (and why), is in the book of Micah, where in turn the tale is picked up in the book of Jonah and ends in absolute catastrophe in the book of the prophet Nahum. Even though their placement in the King James version of the Bible is Jonah, Micah and then Nahum, try reading them in this chronological order of events as they occurred: Micah (7 chapters long), Jonah (4 chapters long), and lastly Nahum (which is a mere 3 chapters in length.)
4. The brothers James and John, along with Simon Peter, were all disciples of Jesus during His earth walk. In addition, they also shared something else in common while they followed Him. What was ---?

Answer: they formed a close inner circle of friendship with Christ

These three men comprised an inner circle of believers around Christ and were his closest confidants at times.
The other answers were ALMOST correct, but each of them was wrong for the following reasons:
James was beheaded; John was exiled for a time, and apparently died of old age. Tradition holds that Peter was hung on a cross in Rome, some say upside-down. While John and Peter were present when a lame beggar was healed outside the temple, James was not present. Peter and John are each often credited with writing several of the books of the New Testament (two and four, respectively), but James did not. The book of James is believed by many to have been written by one of the four half-brothers of Jesus, who were the sons of Mary and Joseph.
5. King Solomon's mother and a visiting female dignitary to his realm had something in common. What was ---?

Answer: their names or titles share similar parts

Bath-SHEBA, Solomon's mother and the queen of SHEBA have elements of the same name. To break it down; Bath - (meaning daughter) of an oath, and sheba (meaning seven), compares to the queen of SHEBA in the last part of Bathsheba's name. It is debated as to exactly where this queen arrived from, but one of the most common suggestions is the contemporary land of Yemen.
6. The Old Testament characters of Lot and Jacob as well as the New Testament characters of Mary Magdalene and Simon Peter ALL experienced something similar. What was ---?

Answer: having a conversation with an angel

All of these characters carried on conversations with angelic beings.

See Genesis 19 for the story of Lot's encounter with two angels; Genesis 32 for the account of Jacob's two separate involvements with angelic beings; Mark 16 for the appearance of an angel to Mary Magdalene and other women; and finally, read Acts 12 for the encounter of Peter and an angel.
7. Nathan, the prophet, and Iddo, the seer, are both mentioned in the book of 2nd Chronicles. They both engaged in a particular activity related to their prophecies and visions. What was ---?

Answer: writing books

They both wrote books, according to 2nd Chronicles 9:29 and 1st Chronicles 29:29, but those volumes have either been lost entirely, or more likely, they may have been integrated into other works, such as 1st and 2nd Kings or the two books of Samuel.
8. Queen Jezebel, the wife of King Ahab of Israel, had a name that many people today still associate with evil itself. One of the four kings with the title 'Herod', a later king of Israel in New Testament times, was not known for his overly-kind nature either. When both of them died, they shared something in common with each other. What was ---?

Answer: they were eaten by lesser life forms

Jezebel was eaten by dogs and Herod was eaten by worms. Read 2 Kings 9 for the horrible death of Jezebel and the end of chapter 12 of the book of the Acts of the apostles for the equally disturbing account of Herod's death. Notably, the Bible states that, "And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost." This could be taken to mean that he was STILL ALIVE as the worms ate him, and THEN he died as a result.

In either event they both suffered horribly, just as they had caused so much suffering to others while they lived.
9. Elijah plus Elisha equals lots of miracles. That's what these two prophets shared in common. But one of the miracles they performed was done by BOTH of them, albeit at different times. What was ---?

Answer: raising a child from the dead

Elijah's name, (Eliyyahu) means "Yah is God", while Elisha's name, pronounced (el-ee-shaw'), means "God is Salvation".
Elisha had asked for a double portion of Elijah's abilities in performing miracles for God's people. He received that blessing because he observed as Elijah was taken away from the earth in a fiery chariot.

(For accounts of both instances of the resurrection of the young boys, read more about the two distinctively different stories as they are recorded in 1 Kings 17 and in 2 Kings 4.)
10. A God-fearing king and a "crazy man". The king? Hezekiah. The lunatic? Legion. The story of Hezekiah is found in the Old Testament, and the story of Legion is found in the gospels of Mark and Luke. Now what on earth could these two individuals possibly have in common? What was ---?

Answer: after seeming doomed, they obtained a new lease on life

King Hezekiah repented of some things that he had done that were offensive to God, and as a result was granted 15 more years of life as he lay on what was to have been his death-bed. (2nd Kings:20)
The man who called himself Legion lived naked among the tombs, and spent his time slashing upon himself with stones. When he encountered Jesus, he was brought into his right mind and continued life as a living testimony as to what Jesus had done for him.
