Bible fathers Trivia Quiz

Fathers play such important roles in the lives of their children, that the Psalmist likened the compassion of God for man, unto the compassion a father has for his children. This quiz is written in honor of Fathers' Day.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. My name is Methuselah, and my father was a devout man who walked with God. In the end he was translated to Heaven. Do you know the name of my righteous dad?

Answer: Enoch

Nothing is recorded about Enoch as a father in Genesis 5, but he had a track record of having walked with God all the days of his life (which was three hundred and sixty-five years), and in the end God took him to heaven. This should surely qualify him as being a special dad who would have taught his children to love the Lord.
2. I am called Gershom. God spoke "face-to-face" to other fathers of the Bible but not only did He do this to my father, He also spoke to him as a friend. Do you know the name of my privileged dad?

Answer: Moses

Exodus 33:11 states that the Lord spoke to Moses face-to-face as a man speaks to his friend. Moses had many accomplishments in his life but surely this was the highlight; it was indeed an honor for him and no doubt his sons were highly influenced by him.
3. My name is Phinehas. My father was a faithful high priest but he did not correct my brother and me for our wrongdoing and so we were disobedient to God and to him. Do you know the name of our dad who allowed us to do as we pleased?

Answer: Eli

In spite of Eli being a faithful high priest, 1 Samuel 1:3, 2:12-17 and 3:13 tell the story of his failure to correct his sons Hophni and Phinehas. They therefore did things that were displeasing to God. He was too lenient with his boys and did not train them in the way he should have; he spared the rod and their lives ended tragically in battle.
4. I am called Archelaus. My father was a powerful king but the birth of an infant whom he feared caused him to be responsible for "The Massacre of the Innocents." Do you know the name of my father who ordered this heinous act?

Answer: Herod

Matthew chapter one tells the story of the birth of Jesus, a babe destined to become king. King Herod was jealous and afraid that the child would become a man and take over his kingdom and so he sought to kill him. He sent his soldiers to Bethlehem where they killed all the male children two years old and under, but Jesus escaped and went safely to Egypt with His parents.
5. The Bible does not mention anything about this man being a family man but he must have had a good influence on his children, who are named in Numbers 26:59, since they all grew up to be servants of the Lord. Do you know the name of this man, whose children made him proud?

Answer: Amram

See also Exodus 4:13-17, 15:20 and 28:1. It is recorded that Amram was the father of Moses, Aaron and Miriam. Moses was a man with many accomplishments, one being a prophet and also a leader of Israel. Aaron was a high priest and spokesman, and Miriam was called by God to be a prophetess.
6. I am called Rufus and I am proud to say that my dad helped Jesus carry His cross to Calvary. Do you know the name of my privileged father? (Check out Mark 15:21.)

Answer: Simon

Mark 15:21 states that Simon, a man from Cyrene (Africa) and the father of Alexander and Rufus, was compelled to carry the cross of Jesus to Golgotha. This was an honor indeed but they did not know it at the time. He helped Jesus on the journey to what Christians understand as His destiny of bringing salvation to mankind.
7. Our father was a man who loved wealth. He married the two of us sisters off to one man in exchange for work and financial gain! Do you know the name of our greedy father?

Answer: Laban

Genesis chapters 29-31 tells the story of how Laban used his daughters and Jacob to increase his wealth. He deceived Jacob by giving him Leah as his wife, when he really wanted Rachel and he consumed the money that was rightfully theirs (Genesis 31: 14-16).

In the end, however, when Jacob was leaving with his family and property, Laban made a covenant with him and made him promise not to mistreat his daughters. His fatherly instinct was shown in the end and they parted on good terms (Genesis 31: 48-51).
8. My father had the honor of being called a friend of God and the father of nations. Do you know the name of my honored dad?

Answer: Abraham

Genesis 17:5 refers to Abraham as the father of many nations and even to date, there is a simple song that children across the world sings; "Father Abraham has many children and I am one of them." In Isaiah 41:8 God called him, "My friend."
9. My name is Belshazzar. My father was a very boastful king and God humbled him into becoming an animal until he acknowledged that God was the most high and not him. Do you know the name of my father, the king who had this humiliating experience?

Answer: Nebuchadnezzar

Daniel interpreted Nebuchadnezzar's dream in chapter 4 of the Book of Daniel and informed him that the horrible tale of him becoming an animal would come to pass unless he changed his ways and lived a righteous life. His pride did not allow him to do so and he boasted for the last time.

After looking like an animal and living with them, the Bible says he surrendered to God and gave Him his due praise and honor. He was then restored to his kingdom and he continued to praise God and not himself.
10. My father became well known because of me, I was never called by my name alone but was referred to as "------ the son of ---" (see Numbers 14:30 for an example). Do you know the name of my dad?

Answer: Nun

Through out the books of Numbers and Joshua, whenever the name Joshua was mentioned "the son of Nun" followed: he was known as "Joshua the son of Nun." Maybe his father was an important man and that is why his name was mentioned so often; whatever the reason he surely did train up his son in the right way.
When the children of Israel had to choose whom they would serve, Joshua said "Choose for yourself whom you will serve but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." (Joshua 24:15).
