Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the name of the woman who was spotted by David from a rooftoop while she was bathing?

Answer: Bathsheba

Bathsheba, of course, is the correct answer. Her bath took place in 2 Samuel 11. She would go on to have an adulterous affair with David and then end up becoming his wife. Later, she would become the Queen Mother when her son Solomon assumed the throne. As a result, she would be the most powerful woman in the land.
2. What's the name Rachel gave to her second son just before she died while giving birth? (The name was later changed to Benjamin by the father, Jacob.)

Answer: Ben-Oni

Ben-Oni is the correct answer. Genesis 35:18 in the NIV Bible states Rachel, "as she breathed her last -- for she was dying -- she named her son Ben-Oni. But his father named him Benjamin." Ben-Oni means 'son of my trouble' while Benjamin means 'son of my right hand'.
3. Job was visited by three friends who attempted to comfort him in his time of need, as per Job 2:11. What's the name of his friend that starts with the letter 'B'?

Answer: Bildad

Bildad was one of three friends who attempted to comfort Job. Bildad was a Shuhite and he was accompanied by Eliphaz a Temanite and Zophar a Naamathite. A fourth friend, Elihu, appears in the 32nd chapter of Job. Their conversations with Job comprises a major portion of the book.
4. The son of Jogli was a chief of the tribe of Dan and according to Scripture, he was one of the ten men appointed to divide the land of Canaan between the tribes of Israel. What's his name?

Answer: Bukki

Bukki is the correct answer. However, not much is known about him as he doesn't get a lot of coverage in the Old Testament apart from Numbers 34:22. According to the Website Biblical-Baby-Names.com, the name Bukki means 'wasting' and is pronounced 'book-kee'.

There is a second Bukki in the Bible. According to Scripture, the second Bukki was a high priest and he was the father of Uzzi. He was the son of Abishua.
5. What's the name of the man Ruth married after her first husband, a son of Naomi, died?

Answer: Boaz

Boaz is the man who married Ruth. Much of the book of Ruth is about their romance. Their marriage resulted in the birth of Obed (Ruth 4:17) who became the father of Jesse who was the father of David, one of the most famous characters in the Old Testament.
6. In the Gospel of John, one of the 12 Disciples is referred to as Nathanael. Many theologians believe it is the same disciple as one with a different name in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke. What is the other name?

Answer: Bartholomew

The disciple is referred to as Bartholomew in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke as well as in the book of Acts, which was also written by Luke. Although Nathanael (Bartholomew) was one of the quiet disciples, he is known for being the first disciple to make the declaration that Jesus was the Son of God. He made the declaration in John 1:49, months, possibly years before Peter.
7. According to Scripture, what was the name of the community in which Jesus was located when He ascended into heaven?

Answer: Bethany

Bethany is the correct answer. It's in this same community in which Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead and where he was anointed with expensive perfume in the house of Simon the Leper. Christ's ascension at Bethany is recorded in Luke 24:50-53.
8. What's the name of the felon who was released by the crowd, rather than Jesus, before Jesus' crucifixion?

Answer: Barabbas

According to Scripture, the crowd demanded the release of Barabbas and the crucifixion of Jesus. It was the custom of the day to release a prisoner at the time of the Passover and Pilate thought it would be a wise move to release Jesus, as per Mark 15:6-15. The crowd, however, shouted for the release of Barabbas, a prisoner cited for committing murder in an insurrection. When Pilate asked the crowd what should be the fate of Jesus, Scripture reports they said to crucify him.

Mark 15:12-15, in the NIV Bible, states: "'What shall I do, then, with the one you call the king of the Jews?'" Pilate asked them. 'Crucify him!' they shouted. 'Why? What crime has he committed?' asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder, 'Crucify him!' Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified." Matthew 27:16 describes Barabbas as a "notorious" prisoner.
9. What's the name of the early church worker who earned the nickname 'Son of Encouragement'?

Answer: Barnabas

Barnabas is the correct answer. According to Acts 4:36, his original name was Joseph and he was a Levite from Cyprus. However, the apostles opted to call him Barnabas, which means 'son of encouragement'. In addition to being an encouragement to others, Barnabas was a generous giver. Acts 4:37 states he sold a field he owned and "brought the money and put it at the apostles' feet".
10. What was the name of the blind beggar who had his sight restored when Jesus visited Jericho?

Answer: Bartimaeus

Bartimaeus was a helpless beggar who regained his sight after he had an encounter with Jesus. His story appears in the 10th chapter of the Gospel of Mark. It's a heartwarming story and has always been one of my favorites. In fact, the first quiz I did for FunTrivia was about blind Bartimaeus. According to Scripture, Bartimaeus was the son of Timaeus but no other details are given about his family.
