A-K Trivia Questions

1. After his wife Sarah passed away, Abraham remarried and had an additional six sons with his second wife. What was her name?

From Quiz
Kings, Kisses and Knowledge

Answer: Keturah

Genesis 25:1,2 - "Abraham had taken another wife, whose name was Keturah. She bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak and Shuah." But it was Abraham's son Isaac (from Sarah) that was the promised child and firstborn (legitimate) son. As such, Isaac got everything when Abraham finally passed away at the age of 175. Genesis 25:5,6 - "Abraham left everything he owned to Isaac. But while he was still living, he gave gifts to the sons of his concubines and sent them away from his son Isaac to the land of the east."

2. He was the younger of a set of twins, and would go on to become the father of a nation. Who dreamt of angels on a stairway to heaven?

From Quiz Jesus, Jerusalem and Judges

Answer: Jacob

Genesis 25:26 - "After this, his brother came out, with his hand grasping Esau's heel; so he was named Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when Rebekah gave birth to them." Born with the name Jacob, God changed his name was changed to Israel and his twelve sons became the foundation of the nation and Tribes of Israel. As a young man, his father Isaac sent him to find a wife from the family of his mother's brother Laban, rather than take a wife from amongst the Canaanites. While en route, Jacob had a dream of angels and of God, who told him of the future of his family: Genesis 28:10-15 - "Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Harran. When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep. He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. There above it stood the Lord, and he said: 'I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring. 15 I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.'"

3. Out of the four names below, which man played the harp as a teenager for a distressed King Saul? (1 Samuel 16:23)

From Quiz The Answer is Either A, B, C, or D -- #3

Answer: David

In addition to being a ferocious warrior, David was a talented musician, especially when it came to the harp. According to 1 Samuel 16:23, King Saul had a distressing spirit depart from him whenever David played the harp. 1 Samuel 16:23, in the NKJV, explains things this way: "And so it was, whenever the spirit from God was upon Saul, that David would take a harp and play it with his hand. Then Saul would become refreshed and well, and the distressing spirit would depart from him." No age is given for David when he played the harp for Saul, but it is commonly believed he was in his early teens as David's performances took place before he slayed the Philistine giant Goliath.

4. Who was the only daughter of Jacob, as per Genesis 30:21?

From Quiz The Answer is Either A, B, C or D -- #2

Answer: Dinah

Dinah is the correct answer. She was the daughter of Jacob and Leah. According to Genesis 34, Dinah was defiled by Shechem, prompting her brothers Simeon and Levi to go on a ruthless vigilante killing spree. There is no record in Scripture of Dinah ever marrying and having children. Jacob was also the father of twelve boys. In addition to Leah, the mothers of Jacob's sons were Rachel, Bilhah and Zilpah.

5. Eve, of course, is the first woman mentioned in Scripture. Who is the second woman? (Genesis 4:19)

From Quiz The Answer is Either A, B, C or D

Answer: Adah

With the exception of Eve, Adah is the first female mentioned by name in the Old Testament. Her name appears in Genesis 4:19, just before the name of another woman, Zillah. The two women were both married to Lamech, and Adah was the mother of Jabal and Jubal. Jabal is described in Scripture as "the father of those who live in tents and raise livestock," while Jubal is described as "the father of all those who play the harp and flute." There is another woman in the Bible with the name Adah. According to Scripture, the other Adah was the daughter of Elon and the wife of Esau.

6. Genesis 16:12 describes him as, "He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone's hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers." Who was this man?

From Quiz Israel, Isaiah and Immortality

Answer: Ishmael

Despite having been promised a son, Sarai had not yet borne a child for her husband Abram, so she devised a scheme. She had an Egyptian slave as a handmaid, and she offered her to her husband to lay with to produce an heir. Out of this union came Ishmael. As you might expect, this 'arrangement' didn't go as well as planned, as jealousy rose its ugly head. Verses 5 and 6 of Genesis 16 describe the result: "Then Sarai said to Abram, "You are responsible for the wrong I am suffering. I put my slave in your arms, and now that she knows she is pregnant, she despises me. May the Lord judge between you and me." "Your slave is in your hands," Abram said. "Do with her whatever you think best." Then Sarai mistreated Hagar; so she fled from her." While she was on the run and suffering, God spoke to Hagar and promised that through her son would she would have too many descendants to count, and then He described how her son would one day be.

Dan was the fifth son of Jacob (Israel) through Bilhah, Rachel's handmaid. Rachel was Jacob's first love, as described in the book of Genesis, but was unable to have children until she finally gave Jacob his 11th and 12th boys (Joseph and Benjamin), dying in childbirth when Benjamin was born. Genesis 30:1-6 - "When Rachel saw that she was not bearing Jacob any children, she became jealous of her sister. So she said to Jacob, 'Give me children, or I'll die!' "Jacob became angry with her and said, 'Am I in the place of God, who has kept you from having children?' "Then she said, 'Here is Bilhah, my servant. Sleep with her so that she can bear children for me and I too can build a family through her.' "So she gave him her servant Bilhah as a wife. Jacob slept with her, and she became pregnant and bore him a son. Then Rachel said, 'God has vindicated me; he has listened to my plea and given me a son.' Because of this she named him Dan."

After surviving his ordeal in the whale's (or fish's) stomach, Jonah agreed to go to Nineveh, the place the LORD wanted him to go all along. According to the book of Jonah, the LORD told him to go to Nineveh and "preach against it" because of its wickedness. His story is one of the best known in the Old Testament. 23. How many books in the Minor Prophets section of the Old Testament, or the Twelve Prophets section of the Hebrew Bible, start with the letter H?

From Quiz Biblical Alphabetics -- The Letter 'H'

Answer: 3

Two books in the Minor Prophets, or the Twelve Prophets section, start with the letter 'H'. They are Habakkuk, Haggai and Hosea. In the Christian Bible, Habakkuk, Haggai and Hosea are considered minor prophets. They're called 'minor' simply because their books are much shorter than those by the likes of Daniel and Jeremiah. The twelve books in the Minor Prophet section, however, are seen as every bit as important as the books written by other prophets in the Old Testament.

From Quiz Babies, Battles and Barnabas

Answer: Both of these

Genesis 25:29-33 - "Once when Jacob was cooking some stew, Esau came in from the open country, famished. He said to Jacob, "Quick, let me have some of that red stew! I'm famished!" (That is why he was also called Edom.) Jacob replied, "First sell me your birthright." "Look, I am about to die," Esau said. "What good is the birthright to me?" But Jacob said, "Swear to me first." So he swore an oath to him, selling his birthright to Jacob." Genesis 27:22,23 - "Jacob went close to his father Isaac, who touched him and said, "The voice is the voice of Jacob, but the hands are the hands of Esau." They were the parents of Cain, Abel and Seth as well as other sons and daughters, as per Genesis 5:4. However, Scripture does not state how many children Eve had. 29. What Old Testament character coined the common expression 'Am I my brother's keeper?'

From Quiz Biblical Alphabetics -- The Letter 'C'

The question "am I my brother's keeper?" was asked by Cain in Genesis 4:9, when Scripture says God wanted to know the whereabouts of Abel. Cain's statement is often used to reflect the view no one should be responsible for the welfare of others. However, the statement has also been turned around and has given birth to the term 'my brother's keeper'. The term 'my brother's keeper' has been incorporated into everything from the title of a movie to a Christian organization involved in helping the impoverished.
