Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. F is for First. What is the First Commandment, as per the NKJV Bible?

Answer: "You shall have no other gods before Me."

"You shall have no other gods before Me", is the correct answer. The Ten Commandments are found in the 20th Chapter of Exodus and the fifth chapter of Deuteronomy. According to Scripture, the Ten Commandments were given by God to the Israelites who were encamped before Mount Sinai after they had been delivered from slavery in Egypt.

The story of the Israelites being delivered from Egypt is found in the book of Exodus.
2. F is for Face. Genesis 32:30 tells of Jacob seeing God "face to face" and as a result he named the location a particular name which translates as "face of God." As per the NIV and KJV Bibles, what was the name Jacob gave the site?

Answer: Peniel

The correct answer is Peniel. Jacob, of course, gave the location the name Peniel after he wrestled with God, as per Genesis 32:22-32. Peniel is also spelled Penuel in Hebrew. It's also in this section of Scripture, the name Israel is born. In verse 28, Jacob is told he is to no longer be known by his given name, but as Israel.

The words Israel and Israelites show up countless times in Scripture, but Genesis 32:28 is the first usage. After this watershed event, the rest, as they say, is history.
3. F is for Fall. What is meant by 'The Fall' in the third chapter of Genesis?

Answer: Adam and Eve eating the forbidden fruit and being driven out of the Garden of Eden.

The Fall is in reference to Adam and Eve, the first man and woman, sinning by eating the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden. The tree of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil were two special trees created by God, Scripture states. As documented in Genesis 2:16, Adam and Eve were told they were free to eat from any tree in the garden -- with the exception of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

In the third chapter of Genesis, the serpent convinced Eve to eat from the tree and Adam did likewise.

The rest, as they say, is history.
4. F is for Famine. Who predicted to the Pharaoh there would be seven years of plenty and seven years of famine?

Answer: Joseph

Joseph, of course, is the one who successfully interpreted the Pharaoh's dreams, this even though he had been imprisoned at the time on false charges of attempting to rape Potiphar's wife. After hearing the dreams the Pharaoh had, Joseph accurately predicted there would be seven years of plenty followed by seven years of famine, as per the 41st chapter of Genesis.

The Pharaoh was so impressed with Joseph that he made him the second most powerful man in Egypt, according to Genesis 41:41-43.
5. F is for Fear. In what book in the Old Testament would you find this passage from the NKJV Bible that contains the word 'fear'? "Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand."

Answer: Isaiah

Yes, the passage is found in Isaiah 41:10. Time and again Scripture tells the Israelites not to fear. The command in Isaiah 41:10 contrasts with verses 5 and 6 in the same chapter that tell of pagans living in fear. In the New Testament, Jesus had a similar message.

But rather than telling people not to fear, he told them not to worry. In Matthew 6:25 in the NIV Bible, Jesus is quoted as saying: "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?"
6. F is for Freedom. In what book in the New Testament would you find this verse from the NIV Bible that contains the word 'freedom': "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery."

Answer: Galatians

The passage is question is from Galatians 5:1. Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles is credited with writing the book. Galatians was addressed to a group of believers in Galatia, which according to Wikipedia was an area in the highlands of central Anatolia in present day Turkey. Paul is traditionally credited with writing 13 books in the New Testament, and in the order the books appear, Galatians is the fourth book.

It appears after Romans, 1 Corinthians and 2 Corinthians.
7. F is for Faith. What chapter in the Book of Hebrews is known as the Faith Chapter?

Answer: 11th

The 11th chapter of Hebrews is all about faith. The chapter pays tribute to a long list of people in the Old Testament who were stars for their faith. Names range from Abraham to Rahab the prostitute. Hebrews 11:6, in the NKJV, has this classic verse: "But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him."
8. F is for Fisher. Four of the original 12 Disciples were fishermen. Can you name them?

Answer: Peter, Andrew, James and John

Peter, Andrew, James and John all worked as fishermen before becoming part of the original group of 12 Disciples. Some theologians believe other disciples earned their livelihood by fishing as well, but there is no proof of this. Peter and Andrew were brothers as were James and John.

They were fishermen on the Sea of Galilee. According to Matthew 4:19, in the NKJV, when Peter and Andrew were invited to become disciples, Jesus stated: "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men."
9. What was the name of the Roman governor of Judea who kept Paul imprisoned in Caesarea for two years?

Answer: Felix

The 24th chapter of Acts is devoted to the trial of Paul before Felix with charges against him levied by the high priest Ananias. Arguing the case on behalf of Ananias and some of the elders was a lawyer named Tertullus. Paul appeared to be scoring major points in the trial. Acts 24:25, in the NIV Bible states things this way: "As Paul discoursed on righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and said, 'That's enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you.'"

It was all for naught, however, as Acts 24:27 states Felix wanted to grant a "favor to the Jews" and left Paul in prison for two more years.
10. After being imprisoned in Caesarea for two years, Paul appeared before yet another Roman governor of Judea as well as King Agrippa. What was the name of the second Roman governor?

Answer: Festus

The correct answer is Festus. After presenting a legal argument before Festus and King Agrippa, it was decided Paul should go to Rome to make appeal as he was a Roman citizen. However, according to Acts 26:32, Agrippa told Festus he did not see any reason for Paul to be held in custody.

The passage, in the NIV Bible states: "Agrippa said to Festus, 'This man could have been set free if he had not appealed to Caesar'." According to the Web site Biblical-Baby-Names.com, Festus means 'joyous'.
