Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Using trickery, the second son of Isaac received the birthright intended for the first son. Who was the second son?

Answer: Jacob

Rebekah aided Jacob in his trickery. Esau sold his birthright for a bowl of soup. The name Jacob means "supplanter". You find this story in Genesis 25:29-34. By the way, Jaalam was the son of Esau (Genesis 36:5); Jaalah was a descendent of King Solomon's servant (Nehemiah 7:57,58); Jabal, son of Lamech, had a brother named Jubal, father of those who handle the harp and the organ (Genesis 4:20-21)
2. Who was a son of Jacob?

Answer: Judah

Genesis 29:15-35. Judah was the fourth son of Leah and Jacob.
3. When Moses asked the Pharaoh to let the Israelites leave Egypt, he did signs and wonders by the power of God. Pharaoh had magicians who performed some of the same wonders. Who were these magicians?

Answer: Jannes and Jambres

The story is in Exodus 7:11-22. The magicians are named in 2 Timothy 3:8.
4. Under the Hebrew law, every fiftieth year was set aside to forgive debts, to free the enslaved, to restore rest to the land, and to restore property to the original owner. What was this fiftieth year called?

Answer: Jubilee

The information about the Jubilee is found in Leviticus 25. Some scholars argue that it was the 49th year.
5. The High Priest in the Old Testament had to wear a breastplate featuring twelve jewels. What was the last jewel in the last row?

Answer: Jasper

The breastplate is described in Exodus 28:15-20. Each stone stood for one of the twelve tribes of Israel. The High Priest wore the breastplate over his heart when he entered the holy place.
6. Judge Deborah predicted that the oppressor Sisera would die at the hand of a woman. Barak and an army of ten thousand men pursued Sisera. What woman ended up killing him?

Answer: Jael

You find this story in Judges 4. Sisera was weary from running from the army. Jael offered him a drink and a warm place to rest, then nailed his head to the ground after he fell asleep. When Barak caught up with Sisera, Jael showed Barak where to find the body.
7. Now let's move to the New Testament. Where did Jesus teach a Samaritan woman?

Answer: Jacob's well

John 4:5-26. The Jews did not associate with the Samaritans. That Jesus even talked to this woman was amazing to her. Also, he knew things about her that she wouldn't expect a stranger to know.
8. There are several books in the Bible that begin with the letter J. Which New Testament book has only one chapter?

Answer: All of these

Jude, the author of Jude, was probably the brother of Jesus. The apostle John probably wrote 2 John and 3 John.
9. A ruler of the Synagogue asked Jesus to come and heal his daughter. Who was this ruler?

Answer: Jairus

This story is in Mark 5. The daughter died before Jesus arrived, so Jesus raised the girl from the dead. He told the people not to tell anyone about it.

Answer: Judas

Judas betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. (Matthew 26:14-16)
