Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who was the father of Saul, the first king of Israel?

Answer: Kish

Kish was the father of Saul. Scripture states Kish was a Benjamite and he was the son of Abiel, who was the son of Zeror, who was the son of Bekorath. Bekorath was the son of Aphiah and the grandson of Benjamin. 1 Samuel 9:2, in the NIV Bible, states: "Kish had a son named Saul, as handsome a young man as could be found anywhere in Israel, and he was a head taller than anyone else."
2. Along with Dothan and Abioram, a man whose name starts with the letter 'K' led a revolt against Moses and according to the 16th chapter of Numbers he was killed along with all his associates when the earth opened up and swallowed them. What was his name?

Answer: Korah

It's a long story, but Korah is the one who suffered the unusual death, along with his associates for their stubborn refusal to follow Moses' leadership. Numbers 16:31-34, in the NIV Bible, tells what happened: "...the ground under them split apart and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them and their households, and all those associated with Korah, together with their possessions. They went down alive into the realm of the dead, with everything they owned; the earth closed over them, and they perished and were gone from the community. At their cries, all the Israelites around them fled, shouting, 'The earth is going to swallow us too'!"

Verse 35 goes on to state that 250 men who were offering incense were consumed when fire came out from the LORD. By the time you read down to verse 49, no less than 14,700 people had died from a plague "because of Korah".
3. Two men share the same name that starts with the letter 'K'. One of them was the father of Shallum and Meshelemiah during the time of David and the other was in charge of the temple offerings during the time of Hezekiah? What was the name they shared?

Answer: Kore

Kore is the correct answer. Both men were members of the tribe of Levi. The Kore who was in charge of the temple offerings was the son of Imnah. They are both mentioned in passing reference. (See 1 Chronicles 9:19; 26:1 and 2 Chronicles 31:14.)
4. According to Scripture, what was the name of the valley David crossed in his flight from Absalom and by Jesus on his way to Gethsemane and his eventual crucifixion?

Answer: Kidron

The correct answer is Kidron. Details about David crossing the Kidron Valley while fleeing from his son Absalom are found in 2 Samuel 15:13-37. Verses 13-14, in the NIV Bible, state: "A messenger came and told David, 'The hearts of the people of Israel are with Absalom.' Then David said to all his officials who were with him in Jerusalem, 'Come! We must flee, or none of us will escape from Absalom. We must leave immediately, or he will move quickly to overtake us and bring ruin on us and put the city to the sword." The story continues where in verse 23, Scripture states: "The whole countryside wept aloud as all the people passed by. The king also crossed the Kidron Valley, and all the people moved on toward the wilderness."

Meanwhile, the account on Jesus crossing the Kidron Valley is found in John 18:1. In the NIV Bible, it states: "When he had finished praying, Jesus left with his disciples and crossed the Kidron Valley. On the other side there was a garden, and he and his disciples went into it." A short while later, he would be betrayed by Judas, turned over to the authorities and crucified, only to rise from the dead, according to Scripture.
5. Job had three daughters who were reputed to be among the most beautiful women in the land, according to the 42nd chapter of Job. One of the daughters was called Jemimah and the two others had names that started with the letter 'K'. What were their names?

Answer: Kezia and Keren-Happuch

The correct answer is Kezia and Keren-Happuch. While Job is associated with suffering, he also enjoyed immense blessings. Job 42:12-15, in the NIV Bible, states: "The LORD blessed the latter part of Job's life more than the former part. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen and a thousand donkeys. And he also had seven sons and three daughters. The first daughter he named Jemimah, the second Keziah and the third Keren-Happuch. Nowhere in all the land were there found women as beautiful as Job's daughters, and their father granted them an inheritance along with their brothers."

Verse 16 goes on to state Job lived 140 years and saw his children and their children to the fourth generation.
6. After Sarah died, Abraham married a second woman whose name starts with the letter 'K', as per Genesis 25:1. What was her name?

Answer: Keturah

Abraham and Keturah were the parents of six sons -- Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak and Shua, according to Genesis 25:2. Little is known about Keturah as she is mentioned in passing reference. However, Genesis 25:3-4, in the NIV Bible, states this about two of her sons: "Jokshan was the father of Sheba and Dedan; the descendants of Dedan were the Ashurites, the Letushites and the Leummites.

The sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanok, Abida and Eldaah. All these were descendants of Keturah."
7. According to Genesis 5:9, the oldest son of Enosh had a name that started with the letter 'K'. He is perhaps better known as a great-grandson of Adam. What was his name?

Answer: Kenan

Kenan is the correct answer. According to Genesis 5:14, he gave Methusaleh a run for the money when it comes to old age as he lived to be 910 years old. (Methesalh lived to be 969 years, as per Genesis 5:27.) Kenan was the father of Mahalalel, as per Genesis 5:12.
8. K is for Key. The following verse contains the word 'key' and is from the NIV Bible: "I will place on his shoulder the key to the house of David; what he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open." From what book in the Old Testament is the passage found?

Answer: Isaiah

The passages is from Isaiah 22:22. The last half of the 22nd chapter of Isaiah is about a prophecy Isaiah had in regards to impending judgment on Shebna with the first part being a proclamation against Jerusalem. According to 2 Kings 18:18, Shebna was a high-ranking official in the palace of King Hezekiah of Judah.
9. K is for Knowledge. The following passage quotes God and is found in 2 Chronicles 1:11-12. It contains the word 'knowledge' and is from the NKJV: "Because this was in your heart, and you have not asked riches or wealth or honor or the life of your enemies, nor have you asked long life -- but have asked wisdom and knowledge for yourself, that you may judge My people over whom I have made you king -- wisdom and knowledge are granted to you; and I will give you riches and wealth and honor, such as none of the kings have had who were before you, nor shall any after you have the like." Who was the recipient of this message?

Answer: Solomon

Solomon, known as the wisest man in the Bible, is the correct answer. As suggested in the passage, most other people, in a similar situation, would request riches and fame and the disappearance of their enemies. Solomon, however simply requested wisdom and knowledge to effectively lead God's people, as per 2 Chronicles 1:10.

As a result, Scripture states God also gave Solomon riches, wealth and honor, along with wisdom and knowledge. Solomon, of course, was the son of David and Bathsheba.
10. K is for Kingdom. The following verse contains the word 'kingdom' and is from Mark 10:15, the NIV Bible: "Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." Who made the statement?

Answer: Jesus

Jesus, of course, made the statement. Immediately before this verse, Jesus was rebuked by the 12 disciples for taking time to greet children, (This was in a totally different era, when children were expected to be simply seen and not hear and women were regarded as being grossly inferior to men.

In fact, census figures of the day did not even include women and children.) Notes in the NKJV Study Bible shed some light on Jesus' statement: "Children exhibit sincerity, eagerness, a trusting attitude and total dependence on their parents. Thus childlikeness is a fitting comparison for the qualities a disciple should have."
