Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who or what shall a dog not "move his tongue" against according to Exodus 11:7?

Answer: any of the children of Israel

It says in Exodus 11:7, "But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may know how that the LORD doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel."

Sometimes "dog" is a metaphor and does not necessarily mean the four-legged furry canine. In this case it is a warning that no one should mess with God's people (that is, the children of Israel).
2. What did Goliath ask David in I Samuel 17:43 in the King James Version?

Answer: "Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves?"

Goliath was a giant on the Philistines' side in Battle. David was a little Israelite boy who trusted God to keep him safe against this giant.
3. Who does I Kings 14:11 say the dogs shall eat?

Answer: Him that dieth of Jeroboam in the city

Jeroboam was the first king of northern Israelite kingdom. He reigned for 21 years but scholars disagree on the exact dates of his reign. Some say 922-901 BC while others say 931-910 BC (Wikipedia).
4. Where did the dogs eat Jezebel in II Kings?

Answer: by the wall of Jezreel

It says in II Kings 9:10, "And the dogs shall eat Jezebel in the portion of Jezreel, and there shall be none to bury her..." Later, in II Kings 9:36, it is reported that this prophecy came true.

The Jezreel valley was a region found in Lower Galilee.
5. What did people do like a dog in Psalm 59:6?

Answer: make a noise

It says in Psalm 59:6, "They return at evening: they make a noise like a dog, and go round about the city."

The "they" in this verse refers to the author's enemies.
6. What does Psalm 68:23 say the "tongue of the dogs" may be dipped in?

Answer: the blood of the enemies

It says in Psalm 68:23, "That thy foot may be dipped in the blood of thine enemies, and the tongue of thy dogs in the same."

This can be cross referenced with the story of Jezebel. That is, the author is saying the dog can lick up the enemies' blood much like they ate Jezebel. (Online Parallel Bible)
7. Proverbs 26:11 stated that, "As a dog returns to its _________ so a fool returneth to his folly." What word goes in the blank (KJV)?

Answer: vomit

Dogs will sometimes eat their own or someone else's vomit because it often contains chunks of food. The author of Proverbs compares this to more human varieties of folly.
8. What does Ecclesiastes 9:4 say a living dog is better than (KJV)?

Answer: a dead lion

That is to say having all that strength and power is useless if you're not using it. The beginning of the verse makes that clear: "For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope..."
9. What does Matthew 7:6 tell readers not to give to the dogs?

Answer: That which is holy

It says in Matthew 7:6, "Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you."

By ancient Jewish law, dogs were considered unclean and therefore it would be wrong to give a dog something that is considered holy or sacred. (Online Parallel Bible)
10. In Matthew 15:26, Jesus tells the woman, "It is not meet to take the children's bread and to cast it to the dogs." What does He mean by "It is not meet"?

Answer: It is not proper.

That is to say, before an animal is fed a person's child should be fed, as in God's eyes children are more important than animals.

"It is not meet" is an old-fashioned English phrase that is not commonly used today.
