Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What two brothers did God use to unleash ten plagues on Egypt?

Answer: Moses and Aaron

Moses and Aaron were used by God to unleash ten punishing plagues on Egypt to convince the Pharaoh to grant permission for the Israelites to leave the country and move to Canaan. The plagues ranged from the Nile River being turned into blood to the death of the firstborn.

After the tenth plague, the Israelites were finally able to stage a mass exodus out of Egypt. Details about the ten plagues can be found in Exodus 7 through 12.
2. What two women in the Old Testament died during childbirth?

Answer: Rachel and Phinehas' wife

Rachel, the wife of Jacob, and Phinehas' unnamed wife both died during childbirth.

Details about Rachel dying after giving birth to Benjamin can be found in Genesis 35:16-20. The passage tells of Rachel being buried in Bethlehem and Jacob setting up a pillar on her grave. According to the passage, Rachel called her son Ben-Oni which means 'Son of My Sorrow', but Jacob changed the name to Benjamin.

Meanwhile, details about Phinehas' wife dying during childbirth can be found in 1 Samuel 4:19-22. According to the passage she gave birth to a baby boy just after the ark of God had been captured by the Philistines. Just before she died, she called the baby Ichabod, saying, "The glory has departed from Israel!" Phinehas was the son of Eli, a judge and high priest of Israel. 1 Samuel 4 also tells of the deaths of Eli and Phinehas as well as Hophni, another son of Eli.
3. Out of the names below, which two were wives of David?

Answer: Bathsheba and Abigail

Bathsheba and Abigail had more in common than being wives of King David. They were both previously married before they ended up tying the knot with David. Bathsheba was married to Uriah and Abigail was married to Nabal.

Scripture tells of David orchestrating Uriah's murder after he had an adulterous affair with Bathsheba and she became pregnant. Meanwhile, Scripture states Nabal died in a case of divine retribution.

For details about David and Bathsheba see 2 Samuel 11. Details about David and Abigail can found in 1 Samuel 25.
4. What two sons of David attempted to replace him as king?

Answer: Absalom and Adonijah

David served as king for a total of forty years in Hebron and then in Jerusalem, but his reign was potmarked with incidents, including two cases in which his sons set out to replace him.

Scripture tells of Absalom staging a full-scale bloody coup which resulted in Israel being plunged into a civil war. The insurrection only came to an end when Absalom was killed by Joab, commander of David's army. Details about Absalom's treason can be found in 2 Samuel 15 to 18.

Meanwhile, details about Adonijah presuming to be king when David was elderly and frail can be found in 1 Kings 1. While Adonijah didn't stage a coup like his brother Absalom, he was certainly making the powers that be make him the new king of Israel. Adonijah's plans, however, were thwarted when Bathsheba, with the help of Nathan, intervened to make certain Solomon became king replacing David.
5. Out of the titles of Old Testament books below, which two are part of the Minor Prophets section of the Old Testament?

Answer: Micah and Nahum

Micah and Nahum are both part of the Minor Prophets section of the Old Testament. In the Hebrew Bible, they are part of the section known as the Twelve Prophets.

The section in the Christian Bible is known as the Minor Prophets simply because the books are shorter than those of the major prophets like Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel and Daniel. In the Christian Bible, the Minor Prophets section appears at the end of the Old Testament.
6. What were the names of the husband-wife team who risked their lives for Paul?

Answer: Priscilla and Aquila

In Romans 16:4, Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, states Priscilla and Aquila "risked their own necks" to save his life. No details, however, are given. Priscilla and Aquila were a husband-wife team who served in the early church. Often in Scripture when mention is made of the couple, Priscilla's name appears before Aquila's indicating she was a dynamic force in the early church.
7. Out of the names below, which two are part of Paul's greetings in Romans 16?

Answer: Tryphena and Tryphosa

Tryphena and Tryphosa are mentioned in Paul's greetings in Romans 16:12. However, little is known about Tryphena and Tryphosa as they are mentioned in passing reference. The verse in the NKJV simply states, "Greet Tryphena and Tryphosa, who have labored in the Lord." Some scholars believe they were sisters but there is no way of knowing for sure.
8. Out of the names below, which two women were at the crucifixion scene, as per John 19:25?

Answer: Mary His mother and Mary the wife of Clopas

A number of women were at the crucifixion scene but out of the different possibilities in the question, Mary, the mother Jesus, and Mary, the wife of Clopas were the only two with Jesus during His time on the cross. In addition to the two Marys, John 19:25 states Mary Magdalene was also at the cross.

There is no documentation in Scripture about Mary and Martha, sisters of Lazarus being at the cross, or of Euodia, Syntyche, Anna and Drusilla.
9. Out of the names of New Testament books below, which ones were written by Paul?

Answer: Galatians and Ephesians

Galatians and Ephesians were both written by Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles. Galatians was addressed to members of the early church at Galatia while Ephesians was addressed to members at Ephesus. Galatia and Ephesus were cities in Asia Minor, now present day Turkey. Both books consist of six chapters.
10. Using the NKJV and NIV, which two islands below are mentioned in the Book of Acts? (The KJV has a slightly different version for the spelling of one of the islands.)

Answer: Malta and Crete

Malta and Crete are both mentioned in the Book of Acts, using the NKJV and the NIV. Malta is mentioned in Acts 28:1 while Crete is mentioned in Acts 27:7 and a number of other verses in the book. (The KJV refers to Malta as Melita.)

For the record, Patmos is mentioned in the New Testament, but its appearance is in Revelation, not in Acts. There is no mention of the Canary Islands, Ireland, Corsica, Jersey and the Isle of Man in the Bible.
