Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What were the order of the words that were written on the wall when Daniel had to read the writing on the wall in Daniel 5:26-30 in the King James Version of the Bible?

Answer: Mene Mene Tekel Peres

Daniel interprets the words as follows:
Mene: "God has numbered your kingdom and finished it.
Mene: (same as above)
Tekel: "You have been weighed in the balances and been found wanting."
Peres: "Your kingdom has been divided, and given to the Medes and Persians" (from verse 26-28)

The Bible then goes on to say that that same night "Belshazzar, king of the Chaldeans, was slain." (v. 27). The literal translation is "a mina, a mina, a shekel, a half shekel." Daniel had to interpret this cryptic message for the king.

2. In Chapter 5 verse 12, a queen recommends that Belshazzar consult Daniel. Which of these is NOT one of the things she says about Daniel?

Answer: He can foretell the future

The queen does not say directly that Daniel can foretell the future, although the interpretation of a dream may be a prediction (or prophecy) of future events.

It is not known who this queen is. It is not the queen of Belshazzar, who held the feast, since we are told in verse 2 that his wives are present at the feast. It has been suggested that she could be the wife of Nabonidus (Belshazzar's father and co-regent) or even the widow of Nebuchadnezzar.

3. In Daniel 1, Daniel and his friends refuse to eat the food in the king's court and instead ask for what?

Answer: vegetables and water

Daniel and three of his friends Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were chosen to live in the king's court for three years training to be court officials. Daniel and his friends refused to eat any of the rich meats and wines the king provided, they only wanted to eat food that God had approved. However, this wasn't allowed. Daniel made a deal with the guard, that for ten days Daniel and his friends would eat only vegetables and water and at the end they would be compared with the other young men. At the end of the ten days, Daniel and his friends looked healthier and better than the others and so they were allowed to continue with this diet.

4. In the 7th chapter of Daniel, he saw a vision of four great and terrible beasts. What did these represent, according to the 17th verse?

Answer: four kings

Some have interpreted these kings to be representative of kingdoms, or perhaps even kingdom eras.

Imagine a vision with a lion that sported eagle's wings; a bear chewing on three ribs; a leopard with four bird's wings on its back, and a beast that defied description, other than to say that it iron teeth and ten horns!

Daniel would not have been able to have interpret this vision on his own, and had to rely on one who was standing nearby to assist him. In the 13th verse, we see that Daniel describes one "like the son of man", often seen to be representative of Jesus, according to Christian belief.

In the 15th verse, we see that the visions bothered Daniel a great deal, and he went to one of the nearby beings, (possibly the same figure of the son of man) and Daniel asked him to explain this vision to him. For the remainder of the chapter, we are made privy to the interpretation.

5. In the well known story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, King Nebuchadnezzar made a command to all in his kingdom who would dare to slander their God. What was the punishment decreed by Nebuchadnezzar?

Answer: They would be cut into pieces and home turned into a dunghill

Nebuchadnezzar once again witnessed the awesome power of the God of the Jewish captives. Years prior, Daniel and his three friends were sustained far better than the rest of the captives by eating a diet of pulse (vegetables) and water, rather than food from the King's table. Furthermore, Daniel through God's power was the only person in the Kingdom able to recall and interpret his dream after the seers, and sorcerers failed miserably. Despite seeing God's power, he chose to exalt himself over God by erecting an idol and forcing all to worship. God always has a way of humbling the proud, while lifting up the humble.

6. Chapter 7 of Daniel makes reference to Daniel's vision of a "little horn" that displaces three other horns. In this particular vision, Daniel observed four beasts and the last one had a number of horns on its head, prior to the little horn uprooting the other three. How many horns did that beast have at the onset of the vision?

Answer: 10

According to Daniel 7:7-8, this beast had ten horns to begin with, but a little horn displaced three of those. Some people believe that this little horn represents "Antichrist", or a man who opposes Jesus. While various interpretations have been offered, one thing to consider is this:

In cross referencing Daniel with I John 2:18 which states in the King James Version "Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that Antichrist shall come, even now are there many Antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time", one might be inclined to see this as the image spoken of in Daniel 7.

I John 2 continues on to explain what the Antichrist will do. This description is very similar to Daniel Chapter 7's explanation of Little Horn. According to this interpretation of the Bible, many people will believe the Antichrist is Jesus Christ and will worship him. The ones who do not do so will be killed.

7. In which chapter of Daniel can we find reference to the event that the New Testament book of Revelation refers to as "great tribulation" and that Daniel calls "a time of trouble"?

Answer: 12th

Daniel 12:1 states, "And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time:"

The word "tribulation" translates as "trouble" and this seems to be the same cataclysmic event that John speaks of in the book of Revelation 7:14.
"And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb." (King James Version)

There are those who believe that only the Jewish people will undergo this time of great trouble, while others believe it will affect the populations of the entire world. Regardless, it will not be a pleasant experience from all accounts, yet Daniel and John both indicate that there will be an eventual relief of the human suffering.

8. In Daniel Chapter 8, he had a vision of a goat and a ram. Who did Daniel say was represented as the goat?

Answer: The king of Grecia

In chapter 8:1-8 , God revealed the transition from the 2nd to the 3rd empire which was illustrated in Nebuchadnezzar's vision of the statue made of four metals. The kingdoms are so perfectly described, many skeptics have said the book of Daniel was written many centuries later and was an historical account. The two horns of the ram was the Medo-Persian empire and the goat with the great horn the Greek with Alexander the Great the king. When Alexander died prematurely, his four generals split the kingdom into four separate entities just as the Bible says when the "great horn" is broken, four others would grow in its place. KJV

9. According to Chapter 6, why did the satraps and administrators try to find grounds for charges against Daniel?

Answer: Because the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom

See Daniel 6 vs. 3-5.

Daniel was so good at his job that the officials could not find any basis for accusing him, unless it had 'something to do with the law of his God'. (v5)

Satrap was the name given to provincial governors in the Persian Empire at the time of Daniel.

10. In Daniel chapter 10, Daniel prayed and fasted for over three weeks. When the angelic being that finally spoke to him explained he had been delayed because of a battle with the prince of Persia. Who eventually came to his aid in battle?

Answer: Michael

Daniel chapter 10 described the spiritual warfare that was occurring during Daniels' fasting that delayed the messenger who would reveal the interpretation. The Michael mentioned is most likely the Archangel Michael mentioned in Jude. The description of a "chief prince" also showed the hierarchy in the angelic realm as well. Daniel 10:1-13 KJV
