Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Beginning in Daniel chapter one, while Jehoikim was king of Judah, who started a battle with Jerusalem and took captives?

Answer: Nebuchadnezzar

In Daniel 1:1, Jehoikim had reigned three years as king of Judah when Nebuchadnezzar went to battle with the city and took captives. When Nebuchadnezzar took the people of Jerusalem captive, Daniel was in the first group of men taken to Babylon.
2. In Daniel chapter one, the new king gave the captives of Jerusalem Babylonian names. What became Daniel's new name while living in Babylon?

Answer: Belteshazzar

In Daniel 1:7, Daniel's Babylonian name became Belteshazzar while his three close friends became Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Daniel and his three friends were put into a group of men that would be trained because of their wisdom, physical appearance, and regality.
3. According to Daniel chapter one, how many days did Daniel want Melzar to feed him vegetables and water?

Answer: Ten days

In Daniel 1:8, the king wanted all the slaves to be fed meat and wine to build up their bodies. Daniel knew the meat and wine would first be offered to a pagan god and declined the food. Instead, Daniel asked the king's steward (who carried the title of Melzar) to feed him, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego vegetables and water for ten days.

After the ten days, Melzar could test Daniel and his friends against the men that ate meat and drank wine to see who looked better. At the end of the ten days, the king saw that Daniel and his friends looked healthier than men that were fed meat and wine. For the next three years of training, Daniel and his friends were fed the continuous diet of vegetables and water.
4. God gave Daniel the extra "gift" of understanding dreams.

Answer: True

In Daniel 1:17, God gave Daniel alone the ability to interpret dreams. Daniel's new ability would help him in the future. Daniel was known as the seer because of his abilities.
5. How much stronger did the new king find Daniel than any other of his magicians and astrologers at the end of Daniel chapter one?

Answer: Ten times

In Daniel 1:20, at the end of the three years when Daniel and his friends had gone through their training, Nebuchadnezzar brought all the men together and spoke with each one individually. After he was finished interviewing each man, the king found Daniel and his friends to be ten times stronger than all of his magicians and astrologers put together.
6. In Daniel chapter two, why weren't any of the king's astrologers able to interpret the king's dream?

Answer: The king couldn't tell them what he dreamed

In Daniel 2:1-4, two years after Nebuchadnezzar took captives from Jerusalem, he began having dreams. The dreams were so bad that he couldn't sleep, so he called his astrologers for help in interpreting the dream. There was only one problem. The astrologers couldn't interpret the dream because Nebuchadnezzar couldn't remember what he had dreamed. Because the astrologers couldn't tell Nebuchadnezzar what he had dreamed or what it meant, the king vowed to have them killed.
7. Was Daniel able to tell the king what the dream meant, according to Daniel chapter two?

Answer: Yes

In Daniel 1:16, Daniel was able to tell Nebuchadnezzar what his dream was because God had given him that gift upon being taken captive. Daniel was able to tell the king that his dream was of a great image with four different body parts that represented four different world powers.

Babylon represented the head of gold.
Medes-Persia represented the breast and arms of silver.
Greece represented the belly and thighs of brass.
Rome represented the legs of iron.

Because Daniel interpreted the king's dream he was made chief of governors over Babylon, and his friends were made heads of the provinces' affairs.
8. In Daniel chapter five, what did Daniel NOT get for interpreting some handwriting that was on the wall during a feast for the new king of Babylon?

Answer: A wife of his choosing

In Daniel 5:7, after Nebuchadnezzar passed away, his son, Belshazzar, became the new king. One night, during a party that Belshazzar threw, God wrote a message on the wall in the party room. Belshazzar had heard of Daniel's interpreting and sent for him. Daniel told King Belshazzar that the writing on the wall told of his destruction by the Medes and the Persians. For his interpretation, Daniel was given a scarlet robe, a gold necklace, and was made third ruler of the kingdom. That same night, Belshazzar was killed.
9. According to Daniel chapter six, Darius made a decree that all Babylon should bow down only to him. How long was Darius' decree to last?

Answer: One month

In Daniel 6:7, after Belshazzar was killed by the Medes and Persians, Darius took over the ruling of Babylon. Darius took a liking to Daniel and Daniel did his best to obey the king. When some of Darius' men saw how their king doted on Daniel, they looked for ways to make Daniel suffer. When they couldn't find anything wrong with his loyalty to the king, they went after his God. Darius' men had King Darius make a decree that no one could bow down to or pray to anyone else but King Darius. Darius signed the decree. That same day, Darius' men saw Daniel enter his room and pray to his God in front of a window. The men told Darius what they saw and Daniel was thrown into the lions' den as punishment.

The lions' den carried the inscription 'The place of execution where men who angered the king die, torn by wild beasts'. The next morning, Darius went to the lion's den to check on Daniel. Daniel spoke to him and told him that he was safe. Darius had Daniel taken out of the lions' den and the men that accused Daniel were thrown in along with their families.
10. According to Daniel chapter eight, what vision did Daniel have that made him physically ill for a few days?

Answer: Ram and goat

In Daniel 8:27, the vision of the ram and the goat was a representation of the fight between the Medes-Persians and Greece. The goat was Greece and the ram was the Medes-Persians. Daniel saw the fight between the one-horned goat and the two-horned ram. In his vision, he saw the two-horned ram destroy the one-horned goat, meaning that the Medes-Persians would defeat Greece.
11. Whose scroll was Daniel reading when he learned of the destruction of Jerusalem in Daniel chapter nine?

Answer: Jeremiah

In Daniel 9:2, when Daniel was looking through the scrolls written by the prophet Jeremiah, he found a passage that predicted the destruction of Jerusalem in seventy weeks. After the destruction, Daniel and the other captives would be released.
12. In Daniel chapter nine, whom did God send to help Daniel understand the destruction that was going to happen to Jerusalem?

Answer: Gabriel

In Daniel 9:21, while Daniel was reading the scrolls of Jeremiah which spoke of Jerusalem's destruction, God sent the angel Gabriel to help him understand the seventy-week destruction.
13. Where was Daniel when he had the vision of an unidentified man in Daniel chapter ten?

Answer: Hiddekel (Tigris River)

In Daniel 10:4, after Gabriel left Daniel with the knowledge of the seventy week destruction of Jerusalem, Daniel went into mourning for his people. For three weeks, he ate nothing but bread and drank nothing but water. On the twenty-fourth day, Daniel was down by the river Hiddekel (known today as the Tigris River) when he saw a man.

His guards were with him at the time, but they didn't see the vision Daniel saw. Daniel fell to his knees and was helped to his feet by the man. The man went on to tell Daniel that Persia and Greece would fight against each other as well as the kingdoms of Syria and Egypt. During this time, a horrible man would take control and pit countries against each other, but in the end he would destroy himself.
14. In Daniel's vision of the four kings (described in chapter eleven), which king would lose everything?

Answer: King of the North

In Daniel 11:6, the vision Daniel had was of four kings. The king of the North would become strong and then be overthrown. The King of the South was Egypt and the King of the North was Syria. Both sides would go to battle, but in the end the King of the South would rise up and destroy the King of the North.
15. According to Daniel 12, who was known as the great prince that stood up for Daniel's people?

Answer: Michael

In Daniel 12:1, Michael was the protector of the Jewish people. He told Daniel that those people whose names were written in the Lamb's Book of Life would be saved from the tribulation.
