Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. You have a fifty per cent chance of getting this one correct. Is the following verse found in the Bible (NKJV)? "When you come into your neighbor's vineyard, you may eat your fill of grapes at your pleasure, but you shall not put any in your container."

Answer: Yes

Yes. I must confess I was a little surprised when I came across the verse in Deuteronomy 23:24.

The verse is part of a passage outlining miscellaneous laws God gave the Israelites. To put the verse in context, here's how Deuteronomy 23:24-25 reads in the NKJV: "When you come into your neighbor's vineyard, you may eat your fill of grapes at your pleasure, but you shall not put any in your container. When you come into your neighbor's standing grain, you may pluck the heads with your hand, but you shall not use a sickle on your neighbor's standing grain."

In the NIV, Verse 24 reads this way: "When you go into your neighbor's grape-field, you may eat grapes until you are full. But do not put any in your basket."
2. The following verse, containing the word 'pleasures', is from the NKJV: "You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore." In what Old Testament book do you find this verse?

Answer: Psalms

The verse is from Psalm 16:11. Psalm 16 was written by David and many Christians believe it contains prophecy pertaining to the coming of Christ.

To put Verse 11 in context, here's how it reads with Verses 9 and 10: "Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; my flesh also will rest in hope. For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption. You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore."

Out of the four possible answers, the Book of Psalms is the only one that is an Old Testament book. The three other options (Matthew, Philemon and Revelation) are New Testament books.
3. The following verse, containing the word 'pleasure', is from the NKJV: "He who loves pleasure will be a poor man; he who loves wine and oil will not be rich." In what book do you find this verse?

Answer: Proverbs

The verse in question is from Proverbs 21:17. The verse is part of a passage in which the writer makes the point that God considers the heart.

For the record, the verse in the NIV reads this way: "Whoever loves pleasure will become poor; whoever loves wine and olive oil will never be rich."

Tradition holds the vast majority of the content of Proverbs was written by Solomon, a king of Israel during its golden era.
4. "'Go up to the mountains and bring wood and build the temple, that I may take pleasure in it and be glorified,' says the LORD," is a verse found in a book in the Minor Prophet section of the Christian Bible. In what book do you find this verse?

Answer: Haggai

The verse in question is from Haggai 1:8, using the NKJV. It is part of a passage in which the prophet Haggai tells of a divine command to build God's House.

Out of the four possible answers, Haggai is the only one who was a minor prophet. Ezekiel was a major prophet while the Gospel of Luke is in the New Testament. Meanwhile, Genesis is the first book of the Pentateuch.
5. The following verse, containing the word 'pleasure', is from Luke 12:32 in the NKJV: "Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom." Who is the verse quoting?

Answer: Jesus

The verse Luke 12:32 is quoting Jesus and is part of a passage in which He tells His disciples not to worry. The famous statement, "for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" is also part of the passage. For more details about Christ's teachings on not to worry, see Luke 12:22-34.

Verse 32 in the NIV does not include the word 'pleasure'. Instead, the verse reads this way: "Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom."
6. The following statement is from 2 Corinthians 12:10 in the NKJV: "Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong." Who made this statement?

Answer: Paul

The statement from 2 Corinthians 12:10 about taking pleasure in infirmities was made by Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles and the writer of the book. The verse is part of a passage in which Paul tells of a "thorn in the flesh".

2 Corinthians, as well as 1 Corinthians, was addressed to members of the early church in Corinth, an ancient city in Greece.
7. The following verses, containing the word 'pleasure', is from the NKJV: "And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness." What book, written by Paul, contains these verses?

Answer: 2 Thessalonians

The verses are from 2 Thessalonians 2:11-12, a book written by Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles. The two verses are part of a passage in which Paul warns readers about a great apostasy. (See 2 Thessalonians 2:1-12 for further details.)

2 Thessalonians, as well as 1 Thessalonians, was addressed to believers in the early church in Thessalonica, in present-day Greece. It is generally believed receivers of the two letters from Paul had been Christians for a short period of time.
8. The following verse is from Philippians 2:13 in the NKJV was addressed to members of the early church in Philippi: "For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure." Where was the ancient city of Philippi?

Answer: Greece

The ancient city of Philippi was in Greece. The ruins of Philippi are near the present day city of Filippoi, in the Greek region of of East Macedonia. Philippians was written by Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles.

To put Philippians 2:13 in context, here's how it reads with Verse 12 in the NKJV: "Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure."
9. The following verse, containing the word 'pleasure' is from Hebrews 10:38, using the NKJV: "Now the just shall live by faith; but if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him." Who is the writer of Hebrews?

Answer: No one knows for certain

No one knows for certain who wrote the Book of Hebrews. Some modern day scholars believe Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, wrote the book. Others, however, soundly reject such a belief.

Over the centuries, a number of different people have been suggested as the author of the book, everyone from Priscilla to Apollos. However, there is no way of knowing for certain.
10. The following verse, containing the word 'pleasures', is from a New Testament book in the NKJV: "You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures." In what book do you find this verse?

Answer: James

The verse in question is from, James 4:3. The verse is part of a passage in which the writer states that pride promotes strife.

To put the verse in context, here's how James 4:1-3 reads in the NKJV: "Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures."

Using Bible versions such as the KJV, NKJV and the NIV, James consists of five chapters. The book was written by a man called James, but no one knows for certain who he was. Some Protestant theologians say he was the half brother of Jesus but others strongly dispute this belief.
