Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. According to the Old Testament, what wealthy man owned fourteen thousand sheep?

Answer: Job

Job is the correct answer. According to Job 42:12, Job, in his latter days, owned fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and one thousand female donkeys.

Job, of course, had his life turned upside down and inside out when he was beset with a series of calamities. According to Job 1, his seven sons and three daughters died when a windstorm toppled the house they were in while he ended up in deteriorating health. On top of this, Job lost all his material wealth.

According to Job 1:3 he originally had seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen and five hundred female donkeys, making him "the greatest of all the people of the East."

However, after suffering through his calamities, Scripture tells of God blessing Job immensely in his latter days. Job 42 tells of Job becoming the father of seven sons and three daughters once again, enjoying good health and basically having twice as much material wealth as before.
2. What prophet of God was a sheepbreeder in Tekoa?

Answer: Amos

Amos describes himself as a sheepbreeder in Amos 1:1 and 7:14 in the NKJV. (In the NIV, the word shepherd is used rather than sheepbreeder.) Amos is the writer of the Old Testament book that bears his name. The Book of Amos is part of the Minor Prophet section of the Old Testament and the Twelve Prophet section of the Hebrew Bible.

Amos prophesied during the reigns of Uzziah, king of Judah, and Jeroboam, king of Israel, as per Amos 1:1. The same verse states he was from Tekoa, a town about five miles southeast of Bethlehem.
3. What prophet of God told David a parable about a man with one lamb? (2 Samuel 12)

Answer: Nathan

The account of Nathan confronting David is found in the twelfth chapter of 2 Samuel. He used a parable to make David aware of the seriousness of his sinning when he had an adulterous affair with Bathsheba and then made arrangements for the murder of her husband, Uriah.

According to Scripture, Nathan told David a parable about a rich man and a poor man who lived in the same city. While the rich man had "exceedingly many flocks and herds" the poor man had nothing but one little lamb that was a beloved pet, Nathan told David. Nathan went on to state the rich man took the poor man's lamb and prepared it for a traveller.

When David heard Nathan's account, his anger was "greatly aroused" and proclaimed the rich man should die. Nathan then responded to David, saying, "You are the man!"

Nathan than made the pronouncement that the child who would be born as a result of David's adulterous affair would die, and sure enough it came to pass.

Incidentally, it was Nathan who told an elderly and frail David of the plot of Adonijah to become king. The end result is that Solomon became king, as per 1 Kings 1:8-45.
4. What prophet of God wrote about a wolf dwelling with a lamb?

Answer: Isaiah

Details about a wolf and lamb co-existing in peace are found in Isaiah 11:6. The verse in the NKJV states:
"The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb,
The leopard shall lie down with the young goat,
The calf and the young lion and the fatling together;
And a little child shall lead them."

Many Christians believe Isaiah 11 is prophecy pertaining to Jesus Christ.

According to Isaiah 40:1, Isaiah was the son of Amoz and prophesied in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.
5. What Old Testament book warns of sacrificing a defective sheep to the LORD?

Answer: Deuteronomy

Deuteronomy is the correct answer as per Chapter 17, Verse 1. The verse in the NKJV states, "You shall not sacrifice to the LORD your God a bull or sheep which has any blemish or defect, for that is an abomination to the LORD your God."

Deuteronomy is the fifth book in the Hebrew and Christian Bibles. It follows Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus and Numbers. Tradition holds Deuteronomy was written by Moses but some modern day theologians dispute this belief.
6. In what book is a female lover described as having teeth like a flock of shorn sheep?

Answer: Song of Solomon

The Song of Solomon is the correct answer as per Chapter 4, Verse 2. To put the verse in context, here's how Song of Solomon 4:1-2 reads in the NKJJV:
"Behold, you are fair, my love!
Behold, you are fair!
You have dove's eyes behind your veil.
Your hair is like a flock of goats,
Going down from Mount Gilead.
Your teeth are like a flock of shorn sheep
Which have come up from the washing,
Every one of which bears twins,
And none is barren among them."

Song of Solomon was written by Solomon and pertains to a king's deep love for a young woman who is simply known as the Shulamite.
7. What prophet said God would search out His scattered sheep?

Answer: Ezekiel

Ezekiel made the statement God would search out His scattered sheep in Ezekiel 34:11. The verse in the NKJV states, "For thus says the LORD God: 'Indeed I Myself will search for My sheep and seek them out'."

Ezekiel served as a prophet to the Jews who were in exile in Babylon. According to Ezekiel 1:3, he was the son of Buzi. It is known Ezekiel was married as Ezekiel 24:15-27 tells of the death of his unnamed wife.
8. Scripture tells of the Ethiopian eunuch reading about the Messiah being like a sheep to the slaughter and then the eunuch encountered an evangelist. Who was the evangelist? (Acts 8:25-32)

Answer: Philip

Philip is the correct answer, as per Acts 8:25-32. According to Scripture, an angel of the Lord told Philip to go south to the road that links Jerusalem and Gaza. The passage goes on to tell of Philip seeing an Ethiopian eunuch who was riding in a chariot and reading Scripture.

Acts 8:30 reports Philip ran up to the chariot and asked the man if he understood what he was reading. The man confessed he did not understand it "unless someone guides me."

According to Acts 8:32-33 in the NKJV, the eunuch was reading this passage of Scripture: "He was led as a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb before its shearer is silent, so He opened not His mouth."

(The eunuch was reading the passage from Isaiah 53:7-8. Many Christians believe the passage in question, as well as other passages in Isaiah 53, foretell the arrival of Jesus Christ. In various places in the New Testament, references are made to Old Testament Scripture foretelling the birth, crucifixion, resurrection and ascension of Jesus. Christ, in his three years of ministry, made references to Scripture numerous stating He was indeed the Messiah.)

Scripture goes on to state Philip seized the opportunity to speak about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Verse 35, states, "Philip opened his mouth, and beginning at this Scripture, preached Jesus to him."

The passage goes on to tell of Philip baptizing the eunuch. Going strictly by Scripture, the eunuch would've been the first believer of a resurrected Jesus Christ in Africa.

To avoid confusion with Philip, one of the original Twelve Disciples, the man who converted the Ethiopian is referred to as Philip the evangelist.
9. Using the the NIV, which book written by Paul describes Jesus as the Passover Lamb? (The NKJV does not use the word lamb.)

Answer: 1 Corinthians

The statement is found in 1 Corinthians 5:7 in the NIV, but not in the NKJV. The verse in he NIV states, "Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch -- as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed."

(In the NKJV, the verse states, "Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us.")

The book of 1 Corinthians was written by Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, and addressed to believers in the early church at Corinth, a city in Greece. In 1 Corinthians 1:11, Paul states members of Chloe's household had made him aware of divisions in the church at Corinth. Much of the book of Corinthians is instruction about living a Christian life based on the teachings of Christ.
10. Who described Jesus as "the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world"? (John 1:29)

Answer: John the Baptist

John the Baptist made the statement, as per John 1:29. The verse in the NKJV states, "... John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, 'Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world'!" According to Scripture, John made the statement while he was preaching a message of repentance and baptizing people in the Jordan River.

John also refers to Jesus as "the Lamb of God" in John 1:36.

Incidentally, Jesus is also referred to as a Lamb a number of times in Revelation, the last book in the New Testament.

For example, in Revelation 21:22, John, the writer of the book, tells of the glory of the New Jerusalem stating, "But I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple."
