Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Find the match for Lot's unnamed wife. (Genesis 19:26)

Answer: Pillar of salt

Not much is known about Lot's wife as she is not mentioned by name in Scripture. One of the best known stories in the Old Testament involves the LORD bringing down brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah because of its wickedness, with Lot and his wife and two daughters fleeing.

However, Genesis 19:26 states Lot's wife was turned into a pillar of salt because she looked back, contrary to divine instructions.
2. Find the match for Asa. (1 Kings 15)

Answer: Solomon's great grandson

The third king of Judah was Asa, who was the son of Abijam, also known as Abijah in the NIV. According to Scripture, Abijam was the son Rehoboam, who was the son of Solomon. In other words, Solomon was Asa's great grandfather. According to 1 Kings 15:11, Asa did "what was right in the eyes of the LORD." Scripture states he reigned forty-one years in Jerusalem.

According to 2 Chronicles 16:12, Asa became diseased in his feet during the thirty-ninth year of his reign. Scripture states "his malady was severe; yet in his disease he did not seek the LORD, but the physicians." The following chapter tells of Asa being replaced as king by his son Jehoshaphat.
3. Find the match for Hur. (Exodus 17:10-12)

Answer: Companion of Moses

Hur held up Moses' hands to defeat the soldiers of Amalek, as per Exodus 17:10-12. According to Scripture, whenever Moses looked on at the fighting from the top of the hill, the Israelites would be winning the battle when he held up his hands. When his hands were not raised, the Amalekites would be winning, Scripture reports.

Exodus 17:12-13, in the NKJV Bible, states: "But Moses' hands became heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. So Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword."

Hur and Aaron were in charge of the Israelites (Exodus 24:14) when Moses ascended Mount Sinai to receive instructions from the LORD.
4. Find the match for Nebuchadnezzar. (Daniel 3:19)

Answer: Fiery furnace

Nebuchadnezzar was burning with uncontrollable rage after he learned Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego had refused to bow down and worship and image of gold he had made that measured ninety feet high and nine feet wide, according to the third chapter of Daniel. So he ordered the three Jewish men to be bound and thrown into a fiery furnace. According to Scripture the furnace was so hot the flames killed the soldiers who were attempting to take Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego to their doom. However, the trio was not harmed by the immense heat and Nebuchadnezzar, after seeing a fourth man in the furnace who, according to the NKJV, looked like "the Son of God", ordered their release. The story ends with the king stating "blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, who sent His Angel and delivered His servants who trusted in Him." The three men, according to Scripture, were subsequently promoted by the king.

Details can be found in the third chapter of Daniel.
5. Find the match for Nehemiah. (Nehemiah 3:17)

Answer: Construction of wall

Facing gigantic odds, Nehemiah successfully rebuilt the wall around Jerusalem. In Biblical times, walls around cities were a common feature as they were used to keep occupants safe from intruders. Although Nehemiah rebuilt the wall around Jerusalem, it is not unanimous he wrote the Old Testament book that bears his name. Some believe Ezra wrote the book, relying on Nehemiah's memories. Those who believe Ezra wrote the book point out that Nehemiah 7:5-73 and Ezra 2:1-70 are almost identical.

However, not much is known about Nehemiah's personal life, apart from the fact he had a brother called Hanani and their father was Hacaliah, as per Nehemiah 1:1-2.
6. Find the match for Nimrod. (Genesis 10:9)

Answer: Mighty hunter

According to Scripture, the father of Nimrod was Cush. Nimrod was also a grandson of Ham and a great grandson of Noah. Genesis 10:9 describes him as "a mighty hunter before the LORD". According to Wikipedia, tradition has it that Nimrod was the leader of the group of people who built the Tower of Babel.
7. Find the match for Caleb. (Numbers 13:30)

Answer: Favorable report

Caleb was one of twelve spies sent by Moses to survey the land of Canaan and out of the group, only he and Joshua had favorable reports. While ten of the spies recommended not invading Canaan, Caleb and Joshua saw things differently. They recommended invading the territory and Numbers 14:38 reports they survived while the rest of the spies perished.

The same verse reports Jephunneh was the father of Caleb while Nun was the father of Joshua.
8. Find the match for Zilpah. (Genesis 29:24)

Answer: Leah's maidservant

Zilpah was a maidservant to Leah and after she had stopped having children, Leah gave her to Jacob as a wife. According to Scripture, Jacob and Zilpah were parents of two sons -- Gad and Asher. Scripture records Leah's father Laban had given Zilpah to her as an aide. Little else is known about Zilpah.

However, according to Wikipedia, Jewish tradition has it that Zilpah was buried in Tomb of the Matriarchs in Tiberias.
9. Find the match for Ezekiel. (Ezekiel 1:16)

Answer: Strange looking wheels

Ezekiel is the prophet who reported seeing wheels in a vision. Details about his vision can be found in the first chapter of Ezekiel. The vision is not unlike that reported by John in Revelation, the last book of the New Testament. Ezekiel's report, in a nutshell, is about seeing living creatures and the glory of the LORD. According to the Bible encyclopedia Website Biblos.com, Ezekiel means "God strengthens".

He was among the Jews exiled to Babylon by King Nebuchadnezzar, according to information from various Websites.
10. Find the match for Nun. (Exodus 33:11)

Answer: Father of Joshua

Nun was the father of Joshua but not much is known about him as he is mentioned in passing reference. His name appears multiple times in the Old Testament but is almost always when reference is made to Joshua, son of Nun. Joshua, of course, replaced Moses as leader of the Israelites and led them into Canaan, described in the Bible as "the Promised Land".
