Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Find the match for Jesus and seven of His disciples. (John 21:11)

Answer: 153 fish

According to John 21:11, seven disciples caught one hundred and fifty-three fish when Jesus told them to cast their net on the right side of the boat -- this even though they had been fishing unsuccessfully all night.

According to John 21:2, the seven disciples were "Simon Peter, Thomas called the Twin, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of His disciples."

The miraculous catch of fish is just one of a number of post resurrection appearances reported in the four Gospels of the New Testament.
2. Find the match for the number of original disciples named by Jesus. (Matthew 10:2-4)

Answer: 12

Jesus had twelve disciples, according to Scripture. Their names are contained in Matthew 10:2-4 as well as Mark 3:14-19 and Luke 6:12-15.

Here are the names of the Twelve Disciples in alphabetical order:
1.) Andrew
2.) Bartholomew / Nathanael
3.) James, the Elder
4.) James, the Lesser or Younger
5.) John
6.) Judas Iscariot
7.) Jude / Thaddaeus, also known as Judas, the son of James
8.) Matthew / Levi
9.) Peter or Simon Peter
10.) Philip
11.) Simon the Zealot, also known as the Canaanite
12.) Thomas
3. Find the match for Peter and the number of times he denied knowing Jesus. (John 13:38)

Answer: 3

Peter denied knowing Jesus on three different occasions immediately after Christ's arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane. In John 13:37, Peter defiantly told Christ he would never deny Him, adding he would "lay down his life" for Him.

Jesus answered Peter by saying, "will you lay down your life for My sake? Most assuredly, I say to you, the rooster shall not crow till you have denied Me three times."

And sure enough it came to pass. Details about Peter's three denials can be found in John 18:15-26.
4. Find the match for the number of New Testament books written by Paul.

Answer: 13

Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, is credited with writing thirteen books in the New Testament, with all of them appearing after Acts and before Hebrews. Here are the thirteen books in the order they appear in the New Testament: Romans, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 Thessalonians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, Titus and Philemon.

Some theologians believe Paul also wrote Hebrews but there is no way of knowing for certain.
5. Find the match for the number of books in the New Testament written by Luke.

Answer: 2

Luke is credited with writing two books -- the Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts. Both are addressed to Theophilus.

In the order the books appear in the New Testament, Luke and Acts are Books No. 3 and 5 with Luke appearing after Matthew and Mark and before John. Acts follows John, and appears before Romans.

It might come as a surprise to some, but going by word count, Luke is the largest contributor to the New Testament. Although he wrote only two books, his word count is higher than that of Paul, who is credited with writing thirteen books.
6. Find the match for the number of days Jesus appeared to people after His resurrection and before His ascension. (Acts 1:3)

Answer: 40

Following His resurrection, Jesus made a number of appearances over a forty-day period, according to Scripture. In Acts 1:3, mention is made of Jesus being seen for forty days after His resurrection. Acts, a history of the early church, was written by Luke.

Incidentally, the number forty appears in a number of different places in the Old and New Testaments.
7. Find the match for the number of people Jesus appeared to after His resurrection. (1 Corinthians 15:6)

Answer: More than 500

According to Scripture, Jesus appeared to more than five hundred people after His resurrection. Details can be found in 1 Corinthians 15:6. The verse is part of a letter Paul addressed to members of the early church at Corinth.

The report that Jesus appeared to more than five hundred people is seen by many Christians today as irrefutable evidence the resurrection did indeed take place.
8. Find the match for the number of times Paul received "forty lashes minus one". (2 Corinthians 11:24)

Answer: 5

Yes, Paul was sentenced to be lashed on five different occasions. In other words, Paul received 195 lashes for his preaching. On top of this, he suffered numerous other abuses. However, he remained unstoppable and continued to preach Christ to anyone who would listen.

2 Corinthians 11:24-25, in the NKJV, states: "From the Jews five times I received forty stripes minus one. Three times I was beaten with rods; once I was stoned..." Scripture goes on to tell of more of his suffering.

When someone questions if a resurrected Jesus Christ is real, in my opinion all they have to do is think about Paul. If Christ's resurrection wasn't an absolute fact, why would Paul suffer so much to preach the Gospel? It's apparent Paul had a dramatic encounter with Jesus Christ on the road to Damascus as reported in Acts 9. As a result, he went from a persecutor of Christians to the foremost advocate for Christ.
9. Find the match for the number of Grecian Jews appointed as disciples in the early church. (Acts 6:1-7)

Answer: 7

According to Scripture, seven Grecian Jews were appoint as disciples because the Hebraic Jews had apparently been overlooking the Grecian widows in the distribution of food.

Acts 6:5 states that the chosen were "Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism."
10. Find the match for the number of pieces of silver Judas was given for betraying Jesus. (Matthew 26:14-15)

Answer: 30

Scripture states Judas Iscariot agreed to turn Jesus over to the chief priests for thirty pieces of silver. Details can be found in Matthew 26:14-15. Scripture goes on to tell of Judas being filled with remorse after his betrayal, and committing suicide.
