Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The No. 31. Out of the four books below from the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament of the English Bible, which one has thirty-one chapters?

Answer: Proverbs

Proverbs is the correct answer. For the record, Psalms has one hundred and fifty chapters, Genesis has fifty chapters and Amos nine. In both the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament of the English Bible, Proverbs appears after the Psalms.

Most of the book of Proverbs was written by Solomon. However, Agur wrote Chapter 30 and Lemuel wrote 31:1-9. Some modern day theologians believe the first nine chapters of Proverbs were written by someone else.
2. The No. 32. According to 1 Kings 20:16, Ben-Hadad and thirty-two kings aligned with him were getting drunk at the command post before being defeated by a king of Israel. Who was the king who defeated Ben-Hadad and the thirty-two kings, according to the 20th chapter of 1 Kings?

Answer: Ahab

The correct answer is Ahab. If you responded with David or Saul, I can easily understand your reasons for doing so.

As notes in the NKJV Study Bible state, when Ahab is associated with his wicked wife Jezebel, he appears as thoroughly evil. "But in this chapter, he appears as a capable leader in a time of international turmoil and as a person who had a sense of power and presence of God," the notes state.

In fact, Verses 13 and 14 tell of an unnamed prophet of God informing Ahab the LORD would deliver his adversaries into his hands.

However, before you get to the end of chapter, details are given about Ahab being a condemned man because he failed to follow instructions from the LORD. From this point on, it would be all downhill for Ahab.
3. The No. 33. According to 2 Samuel 5:5, a king reigned over a united Israel for thirty-three years after he had reigned over Judah for seven years and six months. Who was the king?

Answer: David

According to 2 Samuel 5:5, David reigned in Hebron over Judah seven years and six months and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years "over all Israel and Judah".

While David reigned over Judah, Ishbosheth, the son of Saul, reigned over Israel. At the time, Judah and Israel were engaged in a bloody civil war. Eventually, Judah won the war and David became king of a united Israel.
4. The No. 34. Out of the four books below from the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament of the English Bible, which one has thirty-four chapters?

Answer: Deuteronomy

Deuteronomy has thirty four chapters. For the record, Ruth has four chapters, while Esther has ten chapters and Haggai has two.

Deuteronomy is the fifth book in the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament of the English Bible. It appears after Numbers. Tradition holds the book was written by Moses but some modern day theologians disagree with that view.
5. The No. 35. According to 1 Kings 22:42, what man was the son of Azubah, the daughter of Shilhi, and became king of Judah when he was thirty-five years old?

Answer: Jehoshaphat

The correct answer is Jehoshaphat. He was replaced his father Asa as king. After his death, Jehoshaphat was replaced by his son Jehoram.

Details about his reign can be found in 2 Chronicles, Chapters 17-19. As Wikipedia states, "the author of Books of Chronicles generally praises his reign, stating that the kingdom enjoyed a great measure of peace and prosperity, the blessing of God resting on the people 'in their basket and their store'."
6. The No. 36. The 36th verse of Chapter 2 of Luke tells of a prophetess seeing the baby Jesus and proclaiming He would redeem Israel. Who was the prophetess mentioned in Verse 36?

Answer: Anna

Anna is the correct answer. After Jesus was presented as an infant at the temple by his parents Mary and Joseph, Scripture states Anna "gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those who looked for redemption in Jerusalem." According to Luke 2:37, she was the daughter of Penuel, of the tribe of Asher, and was of "great age" and a widow. Verse 37 also states Anna "did not depart from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day."
7. The No. 37. According to 2 Kings 25:27, what king of Judah was released from prison after thirty-seven years?

Answer: Jehoiachin

Jehoiachin was taken captive when the Babylonians conquered Israel. 2 Kings 25:27 states: "Now it came to pass in the thirty-seventh year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, that Evil-Merodach king of Babylon, in the year that he began to reign, released Jehoiachin king of Judah from prison."

Evil-Merodach's gesture turned Jehoiachin's life around. 2 Kings 25:28-30, in the NKJV, states: "He [Evil-Merodach] spoke kindly to him, and gave him a more prominent seat than those of the kings who were with him in Babylon. So Jehoiachin changed from his prison garments, and he ate bread regularly before the king all the days of his life. And as for his provisions, there was a regular ration given him by the king, a portion for each day, all the days of his life."
8. The No. 38. John 5:5 tells of Jesus healing a man who had an infirmity for thirty-eight years. What infirmity did the man have?

Answer: He was a paralytic

The man was a paralytic. The story about Jesus healing the man can be found in John 5:1-9. Here's how the account reads in the NKJV:

"After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches. In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had. Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, 'Do you want to be made well?' The sick man answered Him, 'Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.'

"Jesus said to him, 'Rise, take up your bed and walk.' And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked."

The Pharisees, however, were disgusted with Christ's actions because he had the audacity to heal the man on the Sabbath.
9. The No. 39. According to 2 Corinthians 11:24 in the NKJV, Paul received forty stripes minus one on more than one occasion. In other words, he was whipped, receiving thirty-nine lashes on different occasions. How many different times was Paul whipped, receiving thirty-nine lashes each time?

Answer: five

According to 2 Corinthians 11:24, Paul, on five different occasions, received forty stripes minus one. (In the NIV, Paul is quoted as saying, "five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one". In other words, he received a total of one hundred and ninety-five lashes during the whippings.

That was only part of Paul's suffering. In 2 Corinthians 11:25-28, in the NKJV, Paul writes: "Three times I was beaten with rods; once I was stoned; three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I have been in the deep; in journeys often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils of my own countrymen, in perils of the Gentiles, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; in weariness and toil, in sleeplessness often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness -- besides the other things, what comes upon me daily: my deep concern for all the churches."

Despite his horrific suffering, Paul was unstoppable and continued to preach the news of a resurrected Jesus Christ in present-day Turkey and across much of Europe.
10. The No. 40. According to Matthew 4:11, Jesus was in wilderness for forty days when He was tempted by Satan. According to Scripture, Jesus was defiant and did not yield to Satan's temptations so the devil departed. According to Scripture, after Satan left, who ministered to Jesus?

Answer: Angels

The correct answer is angels. Satan's temptation of Jesus is also told in Mark 1:12-13 and in Luke 4:1-13. Here's how Satan's temptation of Jesus is recounted in Matthew 4:1-11 in the NKJV:

"Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, 'If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.'

"But He answered and said, 'It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God'.'

"Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, 'If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written:
'He shall give His angels charge over you,'
and,
'In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone'.'

"Jesus said to him, 'It is written again, 'You shall not tempt the Lord your God'.'

"Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to Him, 'All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.'

"Then Jesus said to him, 'Away with you, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve'.'

"Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him."
