Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Find the match for the day of creation when God made man and woman.

Answer: 6

God made man and woman on the sixth day of creation, as per Genesis 1:26. The verse in the NKJV quotes God as saying, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."

Adam, of course, was the first man and Eve was the first woman.
2. Find the match for the age of Sarah when she gave birth to Isaac, as per Genesis 17:17.

Answer: 90

Sarah was ninety years old when she bore Isaac, according to Genesis 17:17. This even though she had been unable to conceive all her life and her husband Abraham was one hundred years old.

At the time, Abraham was also the father of Ishmael, whose mother was Hagar. She was the handmaiden to Sarah.
3. Find the match for the number of wives of Joseph.

Answer: 1

Going strictly by Scripture, Joseph had only one wife, a rarity for men of prominence in the Old Testament. Genesis 41:45, tells of the Pharaoh giving Asenath, the daughter of Poti-Phera priest of On, as Joseph's wife. At the time, Joseph was the second most powerful man in Egypt, surpassed by only the Pharaoh.

Joseph and Asenath were the parents of two boys, Manasseh and Ephraim.
4. Find the match for the number of years Jacob lived in Egypt, as per Genesis 47:28.

Answer: 17

Jacob lived in Egypt for seventeen years, according to Genesis 47:28. The verse states he was one hundred and forty-seven years old when he died. In other words, Jacob was one hundred and thirty years old when he moved to Egypt with his family.

At the time, Jacob's long lost son Joseph was the second most powerful man in Egypt, surpassed by only the Pharaoh.
5. Find the match for age of Josiah when he became king of Judah, as per 2 Kings 22:1.

Answer: 8

Josiah was only eight years old when he ascended to the throne of Judah. According to 2 Kings 21:26 and 2 Kings 22:1-2, Josiah replaced his father Amon as king. His mother was Jedidah.

In the NKJV, Josiah is described as doing "right in the sight of the LORD" and not turning "aside to the right hand or to the left."
6. Find the match for the age of Eli when his his "eyes were so dim that he could not see" and he fell off a chair and broke his neck, as per 1 Samuel 4:15.

Answer: 98

Eli, a noted judge and high priest of Israel, was ninety-eight years old when he fell off a chair, broke his neck, and died. According to 1 Samuel 4:12-18 Eli was seated at a gate to Jerusalem when a messenger told him his two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, had been killed in battle and the Philistines had captured the ark of God.

It was when mention was made of the ark of God that Eli fell backward off his chair and died.
7. Find the match for the number of sons of Ahab, king of Israel, as per 2 Kings 10:1.

Answer: 70

It might come as a surprise to some, but Ahab, an evil king of Israel, had seventy sons, according to 2 Kings 10:1. While it was common in Old Testament times for kings to have numerous wives, one gets the impression Ahab had only one wife, Jezebel, as she is constantly mentioned in his interactions. On top of this, there is no direct mention in Scripture about Ahab's other wives. In other words, going by Scripture it is not known how many wives he had.

The seventy sons suffered a horrific fate. 2 Kings 10:7 in the NKJV states they were "slaughtered" and their heads were put in baskets and sent to Jehu in Jezreel.

Jezebel, of course, is regarded by many as the most wicked woman in the Bible.
8. Find the match for the height in cubits of the gallows built by Haman for the purpose of hanging Mordecai, as per Esther 5:14 in the NKJV.

Answer: 50

According to the Book of Esther, Haman built gallows fifty cubits high for the express purpose of hanging Mordecai, a cousin of Queen Esther. In other words, the gallows were 75 feet, or 22.86 metres high.

Esther 5:14 states Haman's wife Zeresh recommended the gallows be built extra high. Commentaries I have read over the years suggest the gallows were built extra high so Mordecai's fate could be easily seen by everyone in an extended area.

Ironically, Haman ended up being hanged on the gallows and Mordecai was regarded as a hero by the king of Persia.

(The KJV and the NIV also use the term 50 cubits.)
9. Find the match for the number of days it took Nehemiah and the Israelites to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, as per Nehemiah 6:15.

Answer: 52

Nehemiah 6:15 states construction of the walls around Jerusalem took place in fifty-two days. Scores of people working at a feverish pitch were involved in the massive construction project.

According to Nehemiah 6:16 in the NKJV, the many enemies of the Israelites were "very disheartened... for they perceived that this work was done by our God."
10. Find the match for the number of sheep Solomon offered to God as a peace offering when he dedicated the house of the LORD, as per 1 Kings 8:63.

Answer: 120,000

The figure boggles the mind, but according to 1 Kings 8:63, Solomon offered one hundred and twenty thousand sheep as a peace offering when he dedicated the house of the LORD in Jerusalem. The same verse states the king offered twenty-two thousand bulls as well.

According to 1 Kings 9:10, Solomon built the temple and his royal palace over a twenty-year period. Before Solomon's father David died, he gave him specific instructions to build the house of the LORD.
