Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Find the match for the number of baskets of left-over food collected by the disciples after Jesus fed five thousand men with five loaves of bread and two small fish. (John 6:13)

Answer: 12

After feeding the multitude with five loaves of bread and two small fish, Scripture states there was enough food left over to fill twelve baskets.

It's almost as if God has a sense of humor. Here we have twelve doubting disciples and, at the end of the feeding of the massive crowd (estimated to be 15,000 when women and children are included in the figure), the disciples are able to fill twelve baskets -- one for each. In John 6:7, Phillip expressed the sentiment that eight months' wages would not buy enough bread for each one to have a bite. Yet, they end up with twelve baskets of food left over.

See John 6:1-14 for details.
2. As per the Parable of the Lost Sheep, find the match for the total number of sheep the shepherd had who rejoiced in finding one that was lost. (Luke 15:1-7.)

Answer: 100

According to the Parable of the Lost Sheep (Luke 15:1-7), the shepherd had one hundred sheep and went on a rescue mission to find one that was missing.

Scripture clearly states that when a sinner repents of his/her sins, there is extreme joy in heaven. In other words, Jesus says, no one can be too tainted with sin to enter Christendom.

The parable, a favorite of mine, appears in only the Gospel of Luke.
3. Find the match for the number of times over Zaccheaus said he would pay back anyone he cheated. (Luke 19:8)

Answer: 4

After encountering Jesus, Zacchaeus, the chief tax collector of Jericho, made the proclamation he wanted to set things right and if he cheated anyone he would pay them back four times the amount.

In Luke 19:8, in the NIV, Zacchaeus states, "Lord, 'Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount'."

The Pharisees, or church leaders of the day, expressed outrage about Jesus associating with Zacchaeus, because tax collectors worked for the Romans and were seen as the worst of sinners. Zacchaeus, however, vowed he wanted to change his life around. And, to this end, he told Jesus he would repay everyone four times the amount if he cheated anyone.
4. Find the match for the number of small coins the impoverished widow contributed to the temple treasury, as per Luke 21:1-4.

Answer: 2

According to Scripture, the impoverished widow presented two small coins to the temple treasury and captured enormous praise from Jesus in the process. In the account in Luke 21:1-4, Jesus said the widow proportionately contributed more than anyone else because she put in all the livelihood she had.

The story of the widow's offering is found in only the Gospel of Luke.
5. Find the match for the total number of generations in the Gospel of Matthew telling of the "genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham." (Matthew 1:17)

Answer: 42

Forty-two generations are featured in the genealogy that begins in the first chapter of Matthew, running from Verse 1 to Verse 16.

At the conclusion of the genealogy, Matthew 1:17 in the NKJV, states: "So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, from David until the captivity in Babylon are fourteen generations, and from the captivity in Babylon until the Christ are fourteen generations." In other words, fourteen times three equals forty-two.

Matthew, also known as Levi, was a tax collector and one of the original Twelve Disciples.
6. Find the match for the number of people John saw 'sealed' from the tribes of Israel, as per Revelation 7:1-8.

Answer: 144,000

According to Revelation 7:4, John, in his vision, saw one hundred and forty-four thousand people from the twelve tribes of Israel having the "seal of the living God" on their foreheads. Scripture goes on to state there were twelve thousand people wearing the seal from each of the twelve tribes: Judah, Reuben, Gad, Asher, Naphtali, Manasseh, Simeon, Levi, Issachar, Zebulun, Joseph and Benjamin.

Revelation is the last book of the New Testament and was written by John while in exile on the island of Patmos.
7. Find the match for the number of days Paul was blinded after his dramatic encounter with Jesus Christ while on the road to Damascus. (Acts 9:9)

Answer: 3

According to Scripture, Paul was blind for three days and did not eat or drink anything in that time. The blindness was caused by a brilliant light Paul saw when he encountered Jesus Christ while traveling on the road to Damascus.

Scripture goes on to tell of a blinded Paul being led to the home of Judas on Straight Street in Damascus. Three days later, Ananias would visit Saul and after laying his hands on him, scales fell from Paul's eyes and he regained his sight. See Acts 9:1-19 for details about the conversion of Paul.
8. Find the match for the number of years Aeneas had been bedridden before being healed by Peter. (Acts 9:34)

Answer: 8

According to Acts 9:34, Aeneas had been bedridden for eight years when he was miraculously healed by Peter, one of the original Twelve Disciples. Before performing the miraculous healing, Scripture states Peter proclaimed, "Aeneas, Jesus the Christ heals you. Arise and make your bed." Immediately, Aeneas got up! Details about Peter healing Aeneas can be found in Acts 9:32-35.

The chapter goes on to tell of Peter raising Dorcas, also known as Tabitha, from the dead.
9. Find the match for the age of Jesus when He started His ministry, as per Luke 3:23.

Answer: 30

Jesus was about thirty years old when he started His ministry, according to Luke 3:23. The following fourteen verses go on to provide information about the genealogy of Christ.

Jesus' ministry would last three years and end in His crucifixion followed by His resurrection and His ascension into heaven, as per the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
10. Find the match for the number of people Jesus appointed, sending them out in teams of two, as per Luke 10:1-23 in the NKJV. (The NIV has a slightly different number.)

Answer: 70

According to Scripture, Jesus sent out seventy people in groups of two to go into "every city and place where He Himself was about to go." (The NIV states Jesus sent out seventy-two people.)

In Luke 10:2, Jesus tells the workers "the harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few."

The account of the seventy people being sent by Jesus appears in only the Gospel of Luke.
