Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The book of Genesis records that our Heavenly Father created everything. Centuries after the writing of Genesis, the apostle Paul states that someone else was responsible for creating everything as well. According to the interpretation of some Christians, whom does Paul credit with being present during the creation story?

Answer: His Son, Jesus

According to Genesis, God created all things. In a correlated view, Jesus and the Holy Spirit were present as well, if one subscribes to the Christian tenet that each entity comprises a part of the Trinity of the Godhead.

Centuries later than the story of creation found in Genesis, Paul wrote of Jesus creating all things following a previous statement that describes Him as being one "who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature".
Colossians 1:15 (King James Version)

(Most Christian theologists do not accept this viewpoint of Christ as being the creator of all things as a matter of course of theology. There is considerable argument that the Trinity was not eternally existent, but that God the Father existed before the other two aspects of the Trinity.)

2. What is one of the ways in which The Evil One tries to prevent people from trusting God, as seen in Genesis 3?

Answer: Deception

In Genesis 3:4 a talking serpent tells Eve, "You will not certainly die." (NIV). This is a direct lie as God told Adam and Eve in Genesis 2:17, "but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die."

It is important to note Adam and Eve did not physically die when they ate the fruit. They would do that later. However, it could be understood that they were immediately spiritually dead. Or possibly that it was this act that meant that physical death was inevitable.

3. Our Heavenly Father has many titles and is known by many names in The Bible. One assurance of God's beneficence is found in the book of Psalms, where God is referred to as "He that keepeth Israel". According to the King James Version, what can we be sure he will not do?

Answer: He will neither slumber nor sleep.

Psalm 121:4 promises that God will never slumber or sleep, speaking to His ever-present love and concern for His children. He is always watching, not keeping a record of our wrongs but watching and waiting for ANYONE to call upon Him for mercy.

4. The angel Lucifer was cast out of heaven according to Isaiah 14:12 (KJV). The fallen angel was titled Satan, which has become more of a name than a title over the years. How does John, writing in the Book of Revelation 20:2, refer to this being?

Answer: A dragon, serpent, Devil and Satan

John the Revelator leaves absolutely no doubt as to the identity of the enemy of mankind, referencing him four times in one verse: "And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan" (KJV)

5. Sometimes, life becomes challenging for all of us, but what does God promise to be in Psalm 46 (KJV)?

Answer: Our refuge and strength

God has clearly promised to be our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. No matter what happens, Christians believe that we can rely on Him.
Psalm 46:1

6. According Job Chapter 1 (NIV translation), what restrictions does God put on Satan in the story of Job?

Answer: Do not touch his body.

In the story of Job, we see that Satan's power is limited. He is answerable to God, as all created beings are, including angels and demons. Satan thought that Job's trust in God was based on the fact that he had blessed him with wealth, possessions and family, but he was allowed to touch all of these areas and yet Job continued to trust God. This may be seen as an indicator that true trust in God is not based on material blessings.

7. One of my favorite names of God, found in Genesis 22:14, is Jehovah-Jireh. Jehovah means the LORD, so what does Jireh mean?

Answer: Provides or sees

In Genesis 22 God has told Abraham to take Isaac and sacrifice him. Abraham obeys God and he and Isaac go up to where God tells them leaving Abraham's servants to wait back. Isaac asks Abraham in verse seven (KJV) "where is the lamb for a burnt offering?" In the next verse Abraham replied, "God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering." As Isaac is on the altar and Abraham is about to bring the knife down verse 11-12 states that the Angel of the LORD stopped Abraham and told him there was a ram caught in the thorns. Abraham sacrifices the ram and names the place Jehovah-Jireh.

While the name of the place is agreed on, the Hebrew "Jireh" is variously translated into English as provides or sees, so the phrase means either God provides or God sees.

8. There are several instances in The Bible detailing a person (or even animals) being possessed by demons. Even Jesus was accused of such a thing! What was the name of the demonic force that the religious leaders were trying to link to Jesus, as found in the book of Mark 3:22 (KJV)?

Answer: Beelzebub

Jesus was casting out demons when He was accused of being demon-possessed. The point Jesus made was that a house divided against itself cannot stand; therefore the point seems to be that He couldn't be using a demon to cast other demons. The three incorrect answers were all pagan gods.

9. Jesus is said to have come into the world as a sacrificial Lamb the first time, according to Christian doctrine based on Biblical references throughout the Old and New Testaments. How will he return the second time, according to references found in the King James Version of the Bible?

Answer: Lion

In John 1:29 (KJV), John the Baptist referred to Jesus as the "Lamb of God, which taketh away the sins of the world." This is due to the fact he was crucified to redeem humanity. In the book of Revelation, John writes (Revelation 5:5): "Behold the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, the Root of David." He is called the Lion of the Tribe of Judah because many Christians believe He will come back and set up His kingdom after ridding the world of Satan and sin for all time.

10. Did you know that God has a Holy Mountain? He does, according to various scriptures found in the Bible. Do you know the name of it? Hint: it is found in Jerusalem today.

Answer: Mount Zion

There are quite a few references to God's Holy Mountain in scripture, but the one found in the book of Joel states that God lives in Zion. (Joel 3:17)
This is arguably a futuristic reference because it further states that Jerusalem shall be holy and no strangers are to be allowed, presumably disallowed from His presence.
