Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Sower

Answer: Seeds planted

The parable of the sower can be found in Matthew 13:1-9.
"1 On the same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the sea.
2 And great multitudes were gathered together to Him, so that He got into a boat and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.
3 Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: "Behold, a sower went out to sow.
4 And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them.
5 Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth.
6 But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away.
7 And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them.
8 But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
9 He who has ears to hear, let him hear!" (NKJV)

The meaning of this parable is that some people hear the Gospel (the seed is planted) but it's not cultivated and therefore never grows. Others hear the Gospel, but the world gets a hold of them and destroys their faith. Then some people hear the Gospel and other Christians come along side them and "water" them and they are able to grow in Christ.
2. Mustard Seed

Answer: Faith

The parable of the mustard seed can be found in Matthew 13:31-32.
"31 Another parable He put forth to them, saying: "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field,
32 which indeed is the least of all the seeds; but when it is grown it is greater than the herbs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches." (NKJV)

The purpose of this parable is to teach about faith. Jesus says later in Matthew 17:20 "And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you." (KJV)
3. Lost Sheep

Answer: Find One

You can read about the Lost Sheep in Luke 15:1-7. In this parable, a man has 100 sheep. However, one sheep runs away. With the other sheep safe and at home, the shepherd goes out to look for the one lost sheep. This parable teaches that if 99 are safe and you know where they are, but one is lost, you go after the lost one. Jesus was explaining to his disciples that as long as there is one unsaved person they still had work to do.
4. Good Samaritan

Answer: Beaten

You can read about the Good Samaritan in Luke 10:25-37. In the Good Samaritan, the traveler is robbed and beaten and left for dead. His own people (the Jews) walk past him but do not stop to help. Then a Samaritan (who were hated by the Jews at this time) helps him. Jesus was answering the question, "And who is my neighbor?".
5. Prodigal Son

Answer: Fatted Calf

The parable of the Prodigal Son can be found in Luke 15:11-32. In this story a son asks for his inheritance while his father is still alive. His father agrees and gives it to him. The son then leaves home and blows the money. He then can't afford to even feed himself and is eating out of a pigs' trough.

The man returns back to his father and asks for forgiveness. The father forgives the son and has a feast in his honor. The older brother is upset at this, and the father explains that his "dead" son is now "alive". Jesus taught this parable to teach that we all need to forgive each other, and that God will forgive us if we truly repent for our mistakes.
6. The Unforgiving Debtor

Answer: Forgiveness

The parable of the Two Debtors can be found in Matthew 18:21-34. In this parable, one debtor owes his master a lot of money. He cannot pay it and his master forgives him so he does not have to pay it. Then the same man who once owed a debt had another man that owed him money.

The man who once owed a debt refuses to forgive the man who owes him money. The point of this parable is that we should forgive others as God forgives us.
7. Unjust Judge

Answer: Persistence

The parable of the Unjust Judge is also known as the parable of the Persistent Woman. It can be found in Luke 18:1-8.
"1 Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart,
2 saying: "There was in a certain city a judge who did not fear God nor regard man.
3 Now there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, 'Get justice for me from my adversary.'
4 And he would not for a while; but afterward he said within himself, 'Though I do not fear God nor regard man,
5 yet because this widow troubles me I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me."
6 Then the Lord said, "Hear what the unjust judge said.
7 And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them?
8 I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?" (NKJV)

Jesus tells this parable to tell His disciples the importance of praying continuously and not giving up.
8. Grand Banquet

Answer: Marriage Feast

The parable of the Grand Banquet can be found in Luke 14:15-24.
"15 Now when one of those who sat at the table with Him heard these things, he said to Him, "Blessed is he who shall eat bread[a] in the kingdom of God!"
16 Then He said to him, "A certain man gave a great supper and invited many,
17 and sent his servant at supper time to say to those who were invited, 'Come, for all things are now ready.'
18 But they all with one accord began to make excuses. The first said to him, 'I have bought a piece of ground, and I must go and see it. I ask you to have me excused.'
19 And another said, 'I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to test them. I ask you to have me excused.'
20 Still another said, 'I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.'
21 So that servant came and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, 'Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor and the maimed and the lame and the blind.'
22 And the servant said, 'Master, it is done as you commanded, and still there is room.'
23 Then the master said to the servant, 'Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.
24 For I say to you that none of those men who were invited shall taste my supper." (KJV)

This parable teaches that many will be invited to accept the gift of salvation, but few will accept.
9. Budding Fig Tree

Answer: World Pass Away

The parable of the Budding Fig Tree can be found in Matthew 24:32-35, Mark 13:28-31 or Luke 21:29-33. This is Luke's version of the parable:
"29 Then He spoke to them a parable: "Look at the fig tree, and all the trees.
30 When they are already budding, you see and know for yourselves that summer is now near.
31 So you also, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near.
32 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all things take place.
33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away." (NKJV)

Jesus taught this parable to explain that things of the earth will eventually pass away, but things of Heaven will never pass away.
10. Talents

Answer: Buried Money

The parable of the Talents can be found in Matthew 25:14-30.

In this parable a man gives different people different amount of talents (a form of money) to use as they will. Two of the people invested their money wisely and doubled what they had. Meanwhile, the other person buried their money and did not use it at all. As a result nothing happened.

This parable is about using what God gave you.
