Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The "notorious prisoner" who was released by Pilate, rather than Jesus

Answer: Who is Barabbas?

Scripture tells of Pilate, the Roman governor, giving into the demands of a crowd and releasing Barabbas rather than Jesus. Mark 15:6-15 tells of it being customary for the governor to release a prisoner at the time of the Passover and Pilate suggested Jesus should be released. The crowd, however, was adamantly opposed to Pilate's suggestion and demanded the release of Barabbas, described as a "notorious prisoner" in Matthew 27:16 in the NKJV.
2. One of the original Twelve Disciples who was also known as Nathanael

Answer: Who is Bartholomew?

Nathanael, one of the original Twelve Disciples, was also known at Bartholomew. In fact, he is known as Bartholomew in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke as well as in the book of Acts. It is in only the Gospel of John he is known as Nathanael.

I find it highly interesting that Bartholomew/Nathanael was the first disciple to make the declaration Jesus was the Son of God. He made the declaration in John 1:49, long before Peter made a similar declaration in John 6:69.
3. A nickname Jesus gave Peter, as per John 1:42

Answer: What is Cephas?

Peter was given the nickname Cephas by Jesus, as per John 1:42. The verse in the NKJV states: "And he [Andrew] brought him [Peter] to Jesus. Now when Jesus looked at him, He said, 'You are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas' (which is translated, A Stone)." On top of this, Peter was also known as Simon Peter.
4. The man who vehemently opposed followers of Jesus and ended up becoming the apostle to the Gentiles

Answer: Who is Paul?

At one time the apostle Paul was a vehement opponent of Christians. He did a complete U-turn, however, after he had a dramatic encounter with Jesus Christ on the road to Damascus. Ironically, he was travelling to Damascus to persecute followers of Christ.

In much of the 22nd chapter of Acts, Paul tells of his life before he became a Christian and after he encountered Jesus. After converting to Christianity, Paul became the main apostle to the Gentiles.
5. An associate of Paul who greeted Timothy in 2 Timothy 4:21

Answer: Who is Eubulus?

Eubulus is the correct answer but little is known about him as the name is mentioned in only 2 Timothy 4:21. In the verse, in the NKJV, Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, urges Timothy to do his "utmost" to come before winter and then informs him "Eubulus greets you, as well as Pudens, Linus, Claudia, and all the brethren."

According to Hitchcock's Bible Names Dictionary, Eubulus means "prudent" and "good counselor".
6. The one who masquerades as an angel of the light, as per 2 Corinthians 11:14

Answer: Who is Satan?

In 2 Corinthians 11:14 in the NKJV, Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, describes Satan as one who "transforms himself into an angel of light". The verse is part of a passage in which Paul warns believers to be on guard for false prophets.

2 Corinthians is one of two books written by Paul and addressed to members of the early church at Corinth, a city in Greece.

Christiananswers.net states that Corinth, in addition to being known for its wealth, was known for its "immoral and vicious habits of the people."
7. A worker in the early church who is mentioned in Philippians 4:2-3 with Euodia and Syntyche

Answer: Who is Clement?

Clement is mentioned in passing reference in Philippians 4:2-3 along with Eudoia and Syntyche, two women who were often at loggerheads. Using the KJV, NKJV and the NIV, this is the only place where Clement's name can be found in the Bible. Catholic tradition holds the Clement mentioned in Philippians became Pope Clement 1.

Philippians was written by Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, and addressed to members of the early church at Philippi.
8. The high priest Jesus appeared before, just prior to His crucifixion, as per Matthew 26:57

Answer: Who is Caiaphas?

Caiaphas is the name of the high priest Jesus appeared before following His arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane. In addition to Caiaphas, Jesus was confronted by scribes and the elders, as well as "many" false witnesses, as per Matthew 27:57-67 in the NKJV.

Using the NKJV, the name Caiaphas appears nine different times in the New Testament. According to Luke 3:2, Annas also served as a high priest at the same time as Caiaphas.
9. The book that appears immediately after Acts, using the KJV

Answer: What is Romans?

Using Bible versions such as the KJV, NKJV and the NIV, the Book of Romans appears immediately after the Book of Acts. Romans was written by Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, and addressed to members of the early church in Rome. Using the previously mentioned Bible versions, Romans consists of sixteen chapters.
10. The number of chapters in the Book of Titus, using the KJV

Answer: What is 3?

Using Bible versions such as the KJV, NKJV and the NIV, Titus consists of three chapters. The book is actually a letter written by Paul and addressed to Titus, a worker in the early church who was serving on the island of Crete at the time.

Two other books in the New Testament also consist of three chapters. They are 2 Thessalonians and 2 Peter.
