Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The heads of what were broken in the water according to Psalm 74:13 (KJV)?

Answer: dragons

Psalm 74:13: "Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength: thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters."

This verse is in reference to when the Hebrews left Egypt.
2. What is red in Psalm 75:8 (KJV)?

Answer: wine

Psalm 75:8: "For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he poureth out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them."

When the Bible talks about wine it is not like the wine we think of today, it was a lot weaker as far as alcohol is concerned than it is today, and in most cases it may have been nonalcoholic such as grape juice (http://logosresourcepages.org/Believers/alcohol.htm)
3. In Psalm 78 (KJV) the Psalmist reminds us of God's power in Egypt. What does he say came from a rock?

Answer: water

Psalms 78: 16: "He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers."

This verse is also in reference to when the Hebrews left Egypt. When Moses hit the rock, water sprang out of it.
4. According to Psalm 80:15 (KJV) what did the right hand plant?

Answer: vineyard

Psalm 80:15: "And the vineyard which thy right hand hath planted, and the branch that thou madest strong for thyself."
5. What is the name of the valley mentioned in Psalm 84:6 (KJV)?

Answer: Baca

Psalms 84:6: "Who passing through the valley of Baca make it a well; the rain also filleth the pools."

Baca is symbolic for "deep sorrow".
6. Psalms 85 (KJV) talks about mercy, but what is mercy?

Answer: God not giving people the bad things they deserve

Mercy was also shown when Jesus gave his life so that believers could spend eternity with him in Heaven, according to the New Testament and to Christian teaching.
7. The Psalmist in chapter 87 (KJV) mentions where he was born, where is it?

Answer: Ethiopia

Psalms 87:4: "I will make mention of Rahab and Babylon to them that know me: behold Philistia, and Tyre, with Ethiopia; this man was born there."

The official language of Ethiopia is Amharic.
8. What does David say he is ready to do in Psalm 88:15 (KJV)?

Answer: die

Psalms 88:15: "I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up: while I suffer thy terrors I am distracted."

By this point David was getting old and having lived a full life he was ready for death to come.
9. Who can still the waves of the sea?

Answer: God

Psalm 89:9: "Thou rulest the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them."

Again, this is also seen in the New Testament when Jesus calms the storm.
10. Psalm 89 talks about one whom God has "exalted": "I have found _____ my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him..." (Psalm 89:20). Whose name goes in the blank?

Answer: David

The description goes on. Psalms 89:27 says: "Also I will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth."

The book of Psalms is a poetry book, but there is also prophesy in it as well. This psalm is attributed to Maschil of Ethan the Ezrahite.
