Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the Voice version of the Holy Bible, John says, "Here is divine(God given) wisdom: let anyone who understands these mysteries figure out the number of the beast because it is the number of a person. Its number is 666." In which Book is this verse?

Answer: Revelation

John the Apostle was one of the disciples who was close to the heart of Jesus. John 21:7 and 13:25. He also has the honour of authoring the last Book of the Bible. John describes his prophetic vision in Revelation 13. 13:14-18, "Because of the signs it was given power to perform on behalf of the first beast, it deceived the inhabitants of the earth.

It ordered them to set up an image in honor of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived. The second beast was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed.

It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name.

This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. That number is 666."
2. In which perhaps exotically named Book translated ''Preacher'', is the 666th chapter of the Holy Bible? (NIV) (Hint: Revelation 13:18 mentions wisdom)

Answer: Ecclesiastes

The 666th chapter of the Holy Bible is Ecclesiastes 7. Most Bible experts attribute authorship of this book to King Solomon. Coincidentally 1 Kings 10:14 also says he received 666 talents of gold annually. Ecc 7:1-3 says, "A good name is better than fine perfume, and the day of death better than the day of birth.

It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting, for death is the destiny of everyone; the living should take this to heart. Frustration is better than laughter, because a sad face is good for the heart." - NIV Bible
3. If we add the digits of the number 666 until we reach a single digit, which digit do we reach?

Answer: 9

Adding the digits we arrive at the single digit 9. (6+6+6=18, 1+8=9). This perhaps provides a chapter-verse link. The 666th chapter of the Holy Bible is Ecclesiastes 7. Ecclesiastes 7:7-9-13 says, "Extortion turns a wise person into a fool, and a bribe corrupts the heart.

The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride. Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools. Do not say, 'Why were the old days better than these?' For it is not wise to ask such questions. Wisdom, like an inheritance, is a good thing and benefits those who see the sun. Wisdom is a shelter as money is a shelter, but the advantage of knowledge is this: Wisdom preserves those who have it." Also 7:16-20 says, "Do not be overrighteous, neither be overwise-- why destroy yourself? Do not be overwicked, and do not be a fool-- why die before your time? It is good to grasp the one and not let go of the other. Whoever fears God will avoid all extremes. Wisdom makes one wise person more powerful than ten rulers in a city.

Indeed, there is no one on earth who is righteous, no one who does what is right and never sins." - NIV Bible
4. The NIV Bible in Genesis 25:7 says, "Abraham lived a hundred and seventy-five years." What just could be the significance of this verse?

Answer: It is the 666th verse of the Holy Bible

The first Book of Genesis consists of 50 chapters and 1533 verses. Genesis 25:7 is the 666th verse of the Holy Bible. Abraham of course also is the undisputed 'Father of Faith' in the Bible, especially in that in his old age and in obedience to God he became willing albeit with a heavy heart to sacrifice his only God given son and descendant and future hope Isaac, in the belief that God was able to bring him back to life if necessary, in fulfillment of His given promise.
5. In which synoptic Gospel is the 666th verse of the New Testament? (NIV Bible) (Hint: also contains the Be-atitudes)

Answer: Gospel of Matthew

The Gospel of Matthew is the first New Testament book and consists of 28 chapters and 1071 verses. The 666th verse is Matthew 20:18. 20:17-19 says, "Now Jesus was going up to Jerusalem. On the way, he took the Twelve aside and said to them,
'We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death. and will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!'"
6. The number 666 may also be interpreted as the sixth verse of the sixth chapter of the sixth Book. Which is the sixth Book of the NIV Bible? (Hint: walls of Jericho)

Answer: Joshua

Joshua, the humble soldier and assistant to Moses who became general, is the sixth Book of the Holy Bible. Joshua 6 gives an account of the collapse of the wall and the city itself of Jericho. 6:6 says, "So Joshua son of Nun called the priests and said to them, 'Take up the ark of the covenant of the LORD and have seven priests carry trumpets in front of it.'" 6:7-10; "And he ordered the army, 'Advance! March around the city, with an armed guard going ahead of the ark of the LORD.' When Joshua had spoken to the people, the seven priests carrying the seven trumpets before the LORD went forward, blowing their trumpets, and the ark of the LORD's covenant followed them.

The armed guard marched ahead of the priests who blew the trumpets, and the rear guard followed the ark. All this time the trumpets were sounding. 'Do not shout; do not even talk,' Joshua commanded. 'Not a single word from any of you until I tell you to shout.

Then shout!'"
7. Again the number 666 may also be interpreted as the sixth verse of the sixth chapter of the sixth Book of the New Testament. Which is the sixth New Testament Book of the NIV Bible also named for the ruling Empire at the time?

Answer: Romans

Romans is the sixth Book of the New Testament. The NLT Bible says in Romans 6:6, "We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin." In context, 6:3-7 says, "Or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined him in his death? For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives. Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was. We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ we were set free(and born again to life in all its fullness) from the power of sin."
8. Which word or name in Joshua 6:6 also signifies the feminine gender of 'nonnus' or monk from Liturgical Latin 'nonna'? (NIV Bible)

Answer: Nun

Nun was the father of Joshua from the Tribe of Ephraim, grandson of Ammihud, and son of Elishama(1 Chronicles 7:1-27). Interestingly the link to Revelation 13:18 is again wisdom. Deuteronomy 34:9 says, "Now Joshua son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid(placed) his hands on him. So the people of Israel obeyed him, doing just as the LORD had commanded Moses." In Ephesians 5:25-27 the Church is literally called the holy and pure Bride of Christ earned via His love sacrifice. Nuns have exchanged marriage for holy vows (married to Christ).

Therefore since the Church is to be His bride at the Second Coming of Christ(Rev 19:7), perhaps this would make a nun or a person living like one, a natural fit or choice to lead or be the leaders of the Church.

Interestingly 'son of' also signifies 'like'. Adam is called the son of God(Luke 3:38). However Genesis 1 only says that Adam was made like God. Joshua 'son of' Nun may also be read as Joshua 'like' Nun. It is not uncommon in the Bible for nations, people or even a person to be referred to as feminine (Ezekiel 16, Jeremiah 31). Again perhaps divine wisdom is the key here.
9. The 666th verse of the NIV Bible is in the Book of Genesis. Is this also the 666th verse of the Catholic Bible?

Answer: Yes

The 666th verse of the NIV Bible is Genesis 25:7 which says, "Abraham lived a hundred and seventy-five years." Even though the Catholic Bible in the Old Testament has seven additional Deuterocanonical Books (Tobit, Judith, 1 & 2 Maccabees, Wisdom, Sirach/Ecclesiastes, and Baruch) as well as additional chapters in the books of Esther and Daniel), the 666th verse is the same in both the Bibles.

The Catholic Bible also has the same 27 Books in the New Testament.
10. In conclusion or summary, in which Wisdom Book of the NIV Bible does the Teacher say, "Meaningless! Meaningless! Everything is meaningless!" He then goes on to say, "Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear(deeply honor and venerate) God and keep His commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil."

Answer: Ecclesiastes

In Ecclesiastes the Teacher (who most Bible experts believe to be King Solomon) is described in 12:9-12, "Keep this in mind: The Teacher was considered wise, and he taught the people everything he knew. He listened carefully to many proverbs, studying and classifying them.

The Teacher sought to find just the right words to express truths clearly. The words of the wise are like cattle prods--painful but helpful. Their collected sayings are like a nail-studded stick with which a Shepherd drives the sheep. But, my child, let me give you some further advice: Be careful, for writing books is endless, and much study wears you out." Christians believe John summarises the commandments in the New Testament in 1 John 3:23, "And this is His(God's) commandment: We must believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us." - NLT Bible
