Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many virgins waited for the bridegroom in Matthew 25: 1-13?

Answer: 10

Ten is the correct answer. Scripture states that five were wise and took extra oil for their lamps while waiting for the bridegroom. The other five were foolish because they did not take extra oil, and their lamps burned out.
2. Fill in the missing number in this Scripture from Acts 27: 27-29 about Paul and others on a floundering ship in a severe storm (New International Version). "On the fourteenth night we were still being driven across the Adriatic Sea, when about midnight the sailors sensed they were approaching land. They took soundings and found that the water was a hundred and twenty feet deep. A short time later they took soundings again and found it was _____ feet deep. Fearing that we would be dashed against the rocks, they dropped four anchors from the stern and prayed for daylight."

Answer: 90

Ninety feet is the correct answer. Incidentally, all 276 people aboard survived the shipwreck, just like Paul said they would. The depths were originally measured in units of orguias.
3. Matthew 25: 14-30 tells of a man going on a journey and entrusting his property to three servants. One servant is given five talents of money and the second servant is given two talents. How much money is the third servant given?

Answer: 1 talent

The third servant is entrusted with only one talent. The parable ends with the servants with five talents and two talents doubling their money and winning praise from the man. However, the person with only one talent buries the money and does not create more, thus generating wrath from the man.
4. In Matthew 28: 19-20, it tells of the Great Commission: "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." How many disciples received this Great Commission from Jesus? (Matthew 28: 16)

Answer: 11

Eleven is the correct answer. Bear in mind this is after the resurrection of Jesus and Judas Iscariot had committed suicide, so there were no longer 12 disciples. The suicide is reported in Matthew 27: 5.
5. How many books in the New Testament are called the Gospels?

Answer: 4

Gospel literally means good news. The four Gospels are Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
6. How many times did Peter deny Christ before the rooster crowed?

Answer: 3

In Matthew 26: 34, Jesus predicts "this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times." In Matthew 26: 74-75, it tells of Peter denying Christ a third time and a rooster crowing, followed by Peter weeping bitterly.
7. Fill in the missing number from 2 Corinthians 12: 1-2 (New International Version): "I must go on boasting. Although there is nothing to be gained, I will go on to visions and revelations from the Lord. I know a man in Christ who ____ years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know -- God knows."

Answer: 14

Yes, 14 is the correct answer. Paul is the one boasting here, but he is not boasting about himself. He says that this man "heard inexpressible things, things that man is not permitted to tell" (2 Corinthians 12: 4).
8. Complete the missing number from Galatians 2: 1-2 (New International Version): "_____ years later I went up again to Jerusalem, this time with Barnabas. I took Titus along also. I went in response to a revelation and set before them the gospel that I preach among the Gentiles. But I did this privately to those who seemed to be leaders, for fear that I was running or had run my race in vain."

Answer: 14

Yes, 14, just like Question 7, is the correct answer. Paul goes on to describe the debate over whether Christians should be circumcised, and to emphasize the importance of caring for the poor.
9. Complete the missing number from Luke 3: 1-3, which tells of John the Baptist: "In the ____ year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar -- when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, Herod tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of Iturea and Traconitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene -- during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the desert. He went into all the country around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins."

Answer: 15th

John the Baptist started his ministry during the 15th year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, according to this passage. He died about seven years later, still in Tiberius's reign.
10. How many books are there in the New Testament of the Bible?

Answer: 27

In order, they are: Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, Romans, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 Thessalonians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon, Hebrews, James, 1 Peter, 2 Peter, 1 John, 2 John, 3 John, Jude, Revelation.
