Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. According to Luke 3:23, how old was Jesus when he started his ministry?

Answer: About 30 years

Jesus was about 30 years old when he started his ministry, which lasted for three years.
2. John 11:35 is the shortest verse in the New Testament. How many words does it contain in the New International Version?

Answer: 2

The verse has only two words: "Jesus wept." The verse appears among Scripture reporting about the death of Lazarus and Jesus raising him from the dead.
3. Mark 6:30-42 tells of Jesus feeding 5,000 men with five loaves of bread and two small fish. In verse 37 (NIV), how many month's wages did the disciples estimate it would take to buy enough bread to feed the people?

Answer: 8

Mark 6:35-37 states: "By this time it was late in the day, so his disciples came to him. 'This is a remote place,' they said, 'and it's already very late. Send the people away so they can go to the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.' But he answered, 'You give them something to eat.' They said to him, 'That would take eight months of a man's wages! Are we to go and spend that much on bread and give it to them to eat'?" Incidentally, the Scripture reports about 5,000 men being fed, but as per the custom of the time, the number of women and children were not included in this figure.

Theologians estimate Jesus fed 15,000 people with the five loaves and the two fish.
4. There's another story in Mark about Jesus feeding a multitude of people with a small amount of food. Mark 8:1-9 tells of Jesus feeding 4,000 men with a few small fish and a certain number of loaves of bread. How many loaves of bread did he use to feed the 4,000 men?

Answer: 7

In verse 6 it reports Jesus took seven loaves, gave thanks, broke the bread and gave them to his disciples to set before the people. Incidentally, theologians believe 12,000 people were fed on this occasion as the 4,000 figure includes only men, as per custom of the time. In other words, the figure does not include women and children.
5. Acts 10:9-16 tells of Peter having a vision in which a large sheet is let down from heaven by its four corners. Inside it are four-footed animals, as well as reptiles of the earth and birds of the air. How many times did Peter have this vision?

Answer: 3

After seeing the sheet with the animals, Scripture says Peter heard a voice telling him "Get up, Peter. Kill and eat." Peter replied he would not do such a thing because he had never eaten anything impure or unclean. The voice spoke to him a second time, "Do not call anything impure that God has made clean." In Acts 10:16, it states: "This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven."
6. Luke 10:1-23 tells of Jesus appointing a number of people and sending them out two by two ahead of him to every place he was about to go. How many did he appoint?

Answer: 72

Yes, 72 is the correct answer. Luke 10:1-3 states: "After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. He told them, 'The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves'."
7. Acts 28 tells of Paul shipwrecked on Malta after a violent storm. How many months did Paul and his companions stay on the island before setting sail for Rome?

Answer: 3

Acts 28:1-10 tells of Paul and his group being ashore in Malta, where they were treated well. In verse 11, it states they put out to sea after three months.
8. Luke 24:13-35 tells of a post-resurrection appearance by Jesus on the road to Emmaus. How many miles does it say Emmaus is from Jerusalem in the NIV?

Answer: 7

Yes, seven miles is the correct answer, as stated in verse 13. In the Greek units of the day, the distance is given as 60 stadia.
9. Luke 23:44-45 tells of darkness coming over the whole land during the crucifixion of Jesus, until the ninth hour. During what hour did the darkness start?

Answer: 6th

The darkness started in the sixth hour and lasted three hours, according to Scripture. This period of time included Jesus' death.
10. Revelation 11:1-10 tells of two witnesses dressed in sackcloth with power to prophesy. For how many days does the Bible say they will prophesy?

Answer: 1,260

Revelation 11:1-3 states: "I was given a reed like a measuring rod and was told, 'Go and measure the temple of God and the altar, and count the worshipers there. But exclude the outer court; do not measure it, because it has been given to the Gentiles.

They will trample on the holy city for 42 months. And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth.'"
