Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many books are contained in the King James Version of the Old Testament?

Answer: 39

The Old Testament can be divided into five major categories:
1. The Law - Genesis through Deuteronomy
2. History - Joshua through Esther
3. Poetry/Wisdom - Job through Song of Solomon
4. Major Prophets - Isaiah through Daniel
5. Minor Prophets - Hosea through Malachi
2. Which of the four Gospels is shortest, with only 678 verses?

Answer: Mark

The Gospel of Mark contains 678 verses in 16 Chapters. The others are Matthew with 1,071 verses in 28 chapters, Luke with 1,151 verses in 24 chapters, and John with 879 verses in 21 chapters.
3. Which Gospel contains the most Old Testament references with fifty-three?

Answer: Matthew

Matthew was a Jewish tax collector working for the Roman oppressors. Needless to say, he and those like him were considered traitors to Israel. In comparison, the Gospel of John contains only twenty Old Testament references.
4. In Genesis 46:27, the male souls of the house of Jacob were counted. How many, including Joseph and his sons, entered into Egypt?

Answer: 70

The seventy did not include wives, daughters, or sons in law. The total number of people was surely much greater than the male lineage of Jacob.
5. In Galatians 5:22-23, how many fruits of the spirit are mentioned?

Answer: 9

There are nine characteristics listed in these two verses. They are: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance.
6. In the King James version of the Bible, how many chapters are in the book of psalms?

Answer: 150

Nearly half of the psalms (73) are directly attributed to David. This book is a mixture of songs, history, poetry, lamentation, and other forms of writings. Nearly all of them have been dated around the times of David and Solomon.
7. How many different titles were given Jesus in the Gospels?

Answer: 7

Jesus is given many different titles in the Gospels. They are: Son of Man (Matthew 8:20), Son of God (Matthew 27:43), Christ/Messiah (John 4:25), Teacher (Matthew 26:18), Master (Luke 5:5), Lord (Mark 5:19), and Savior (Luke 2:11).
8. In contrast to question 4, Jacob and his family grew considerably during the time spent in Egypt. In the second year of the exodus from Egypt, God commanded Aaron and Moses to take a census of the twelve tribes. They were to count the men twenty years and older. What was the total number of the twelve tribes, excluding Levites who were assigned the priestly duties?

Answer: 603,550

In Numbers 1:46, the Bible gives the census of able-bodied men at 603,550. This is an enormous number in comparison to the seventy that entered into Egypt. These were men fit to go into battle against the occupiers of the lands the Israelites would come to claim. Of the over 600,000 men, only Joshua and Caleb actually entered into the promised land.

They were the two spies who had the courage to give a good report when they returned from Canaan.
9. In Revelation 1:11, the apostle John was instructed to write down what he saw. He was then instructed to send this book to the churches in Asia. How many churches were there?

Answer: 7

The seven churches of Asia are: Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamos, Thyratira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea. With the exception of the church at Smyrna, the book was to correct the churches of various doctrines and attitudes they had developed since their inception. The churches were important to the Lord as he referred to them as candlesticks. They were to bring the light of truth to a dark world. In John 8:12 Jesus said, "I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."
10. In the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30), the lord of the house entrusted talents to his three servants. How many total talents did he give the three?

Answer: 8

In Matthew 25:15, the lord of the house gave the first servant five, the second two, and the third one. A talent was a unit of weight assumed to be the equivalent of seventy five pounds. These servants were entrusted with a considerable sum of money and were expected to deal with it wisely. The message to the believer is to use what the Lord gives you to the best of your ability.
