Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Does the Bible teach of any ghosts or spirits as a reality?

Answer: Yes

The Bible teaches us that there is a Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost, which many believe to be a component of the Triune God comprised of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, called the Trinity. Here are some examples of this:

Psalm 51:11
"Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me."

Luke 11:13
"If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?"

Matthew 1:18
"Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost."

Matthew 28:19
"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost"

There is discussion of what the KJV calls familiar spirits, translated in the New Living translation (NLT) as spirits of the dead. An example of this is in Leviticus 19:31:

"Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God."

There is also discussion of what the KJV calls an unclean spirit(s), which in the NLT is translated as an evil spirit(s). An example of this is in Matthew 12:43-45:

"When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation."
2. It is believed that 40 different authors of varied education and background wrote the Bible over a period of about 1600 years (from approximately 1500 B.C. to about 100 A.D.). However, according to Jesus, as well as Saint Peter and Saint Paul, all the information in the Bible came from where?

Answer: the Holy Ghost

In John 14:26 Jesus promised:
"But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you."

In 2 Peter 1:21 Saint Peter tells us that the holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

In 1 Corinthians 2:13 Saint Paul tells us the author's writings were not based on what man's wisdom teaches but on God's wisdom, taught to them by the Holy Ghost.
3. How many books are there in the current King James Version of the Bible -- i.e. excluding the books which comprise the Apocrypha?

Answer: 66

There are a total of 66 Books in the King James Bible.
The Old Testament consists of 39 books.
The New Testament consists of 27 books.
There are an additional 14 books, which are called the Apocrypha, which were included in some versions of the KJV but not in modern versions.
4. In the Gospel of Luke, what did Jesus say about the words spoken by His disciples?

Answer: Anyone who listened to them was also listening to Him

In Luke 10:16, Jesus said:

"He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me." He thus seemed to put His disciples' words on more of an equal footing than his own (which are printed in red in most Bibles).
5. When Jesus wanted to teach spiritual truths, He often used parables. A parable most resembles what type of literary tool?

Answer: comparison

A parable is a comparison where a familiar situation is described alongside a truth of spiritual importance, where the use of the familiar story helps shed light onto the divine message being taught.

In an allegory, words are used figuratively; the properties of one thing are transferred to another.

A proverb is a statement of truth with no story at all.

A fable is fantasy with animals or inanimate objects as characters.
6. The Bible was not always read as books divided by chapter and verse. In what year was the Bible divided into our modern-day chapters?

Answer: 1228

It is believed Stephen Langton divided the Bible into chapters in 1228 A.D.

R. Nathan divided the Old Testament into verses in or around 1448 A.D.
Robert Stephanus divided the New Testament into verses in or around 1551 A.D.

The first entire Bible divided by chapter/verse was the Geneva Bible published in or around 1560 A.D.
7. The exact middle chapter of the entire Old and New Testaments is located where in the King James Bible?

Answer: Psalm 117

What's really interesting is that not only is this the middle chapter in the Bible, but it is also the shortest chapter of the Bible.

The other chapters mentioned are well worth reading but do not answer the question correctly.
8. Which of the following things are mentioned in the Bible?

Answer: All of these

According to Genesis 6:2, sons of God were married to the daughters of men.

We are told that the white of an egg has no taste in Job 6:6.

A man is reported to have 12 fingers and 12 toes in 2 Samuel 21:20.
9. What is the meaning of God's last instruction to mankind written through his Apostle John in the Book of Revelation?

Answer: "Don't add or take away any words from this book."

The other instructions are earlier mentioned in the Bible.

However, in Revelation 22:18-19, the apostle John, inspired by the Holy Spirit, states:

"For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book. And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book."
10. Concerning the Bible, people often say its not relevant for today. With that in mind, how does King David describe God's word in the book of Psalms?

Answer: Its law is perfect and its judgments are true

In the following verses many Christians believe there are five descriptive names used for the Holy Scriptures: law, testimony, statutes, commandment and judgments.

In Psalm 19:7-11 it states:

"The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward."
