Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What discipline did Jonah receive from God because he was unhappy that God has spared the Ninevites?

Answer: God killed his favorite plant

God had given Jonah the plant for comfort, then sent a worm to kill it. God used this to show Jonah he loved his plant more than he did people. Jonah chapter 4 records the incident.
2. What three year sign did God give the Egyptians and Ethiopians through Isaiah?

Answer: Isaiah walking around barefoot and naked

How would you like to have been an Old Testament prophet? In Isaiah 20:2 and following, we see where Isaiah had to walk around naked and barefoot as a sign of God's people being spiritually naked. Ooohhh!
3. What did Saul require of David before he would allow his daughter Michal to marry David?

Answer: One hundred Philistine foreskins

It appeared Saul was hoping that David might get killed trying to obtain certain parts of the private parts from a hundred Philistines. I Samuel 18:25 gives the account.
4. In a battle against the Canaanite army, what weapon was used by a woman, Jael, to kill the enemy captain, Sisera?

Answer: A tent peg and a hammer

Judges 4:18-21 tells the story, describing how this woman coaxed the enemy captain to sleep, then nailed his head to the ground with a tent peg. Then, the predictable subsequent verse, "And so he died..."
5. What was the punishment inflicted on a group of boys who made fun of the prophet Elisha?

Answer: Being ripped apart by two she-bears

II Kings 2:22-24 gives the account of a group of boys who made fun of Elisha's bald head as he approached the city. Their decision proved to be unbearable.
6. Who in the Old Testament started out as a judge, got in trouble with a woman, then went to work at a mill?

Answer: Samson

Samson judged Israel until losing his hair after succumbing to Delilah's charms. This made him powerless to the Philistines. They bound him in chains, put out his eyes, and made him grind grain at the mill until shortly before his death. All of this is recorded in Judges chapter 16.
7. How many of each kind of animal did Noah bring on the ark?

Answer: Maybe four, maybe fourteen, depending

Although all animals came to the ark in pairs, God's instructions to Noah in Genesis 7 was to bring two pairs each (4) of unclean animals and seven pairs each (14) of clean animals (though there are some different ways of interpreting the numbers, we do know that he brought more creatures for each species of clean animal than of unclean). That's a lot of animals!
8. What did Peter use to pay taxes for himself and Jesus?

Answer: A coin from a fish he caught

In Matthew 17:24-27, Jesus gives Peter the remedy for Peter's presumptuous tax commitment...just the right fish for just the right moment.
9. Which of the following was not one of the ten plagues of Egypt?

Answer: Three years of drought

The account of the plagues was in Exodus chapters nine and ten. All of the plagues happened within a relatively short amount of time. There was no three year drought in this set of judgments.
10. How old was Abraham when his first son was born?

Answer: Eighty-six years old

Ishmael was Abraham's first son, and in Genesis 16:16 we are told that Abraham was 86 when Ishmael was born. Ishmael was the older brother when Isaac was born.
